2023 Collab: Week 3 "Painting reproduction" - VOTE CLOSED

This is the Blender collaboration 2023, week 3 challenge. Don’t be afraid to join, a lot of us are beginners. This is all to practice, have fun, learn, and get together.

This week’s subject is “Painting reproduction” .

  • “Painting reproduction" - Choose a famous painting and make your own version of it. Your entries don’t have to be realistic or accurate. You can do a humorous rendition or simply reference a painting rather than recreating it fully. The sky’s the limit!
  • Subject selected by the previous Week 1 2023 “Toon shader” winner Cathy_N

The rules are simple. 1 subject, 1 entry, 1 week.
You create whatever object or scene or whatever you can think of that has something to do with the subject. It can be as simple or complicated as you want, all entries are welcome!
Post your picture here in this thread. And at the end of the week, we start to vote. And if you are the winner, you may choose the next subject and win a unique badge.

Deadline: 2023-01-21T22:55:00Z

Reproduction of “Cosmic Geometry 4” by Oska

Original:

Maybe bending the rules because I think think it’s technically an illustration and not a painting, but I figure it presents the same challenges of recreating a 2D image in 3D.

Spot on! It’s good you labeled which one was the original, otherwise it would be difficult for me to tell the difference. Your replication of the gradient purple to green along the surfaces are well done. :+1:

Thanks! The lighting and coloring was most of the work, since the models are all so simple

The models were all made in blender but this render is actually unity (I’m doing Project Boost at the moment) hopefully this qualifies.

That’s an interesting interpretation. Is it a satellite array? I can definitely see the visual similarities between a satellite dish and a flower. Cool project!

Well… In my lore headcannon It’s actually not an array, the Junkmaster just makes junk sculptures as a hobby. What you’re looking at is several Gurunian Rotors, a few claws from decomissioned Hechgeenian war robots and a human satelite dish all repurposed in the name of art.

The Junkmaster also likes launching rockets to watch them explode. This is the first time someone actually wanted to FLY one of their rockets though…

wont be able to complete this project, dont worry about submitting it for votes. The geometry is really tricky to model

Do you mean the reflections?

If I remember correctly the animation something has a ripple effect.

I used an other technique, circle gradients and displacement

This is my reproduction of Woman throwing a stone by Pablo Picasso.

I didn’t have enough time to get the textures to a place I like, so this will have to do.

i think i could figure out the ripple, its more the repeating patterns on the building face that are arches and alcoves. I tried booleans and arrays and a number of things but I couldnt really get them to do what I wanted so it made modelling more complex than when i originally planned it

I hope you finish it later. It’s a good beginning, and I was interested to see how it turned out.

We @BlenderCollab have a few days to vote. You can vote fast but also think slowly about design, colors, technique, difficulty, subject, realism, etc. Choose consciously and not on your own entry.

And the new subject week 4 “Game related" has already started. The winner of this week’s “Paint reproduction” challenge may select a subject for next week 5 and wins a badge.
