2025 Collab: Week 18 “Primal” - VOTE CLOSED

This is the Blender Collaboration 2025, week 18 challenge. Don’t be afraid to join, a lot of us are beginners. This is all to practice, have fun, learn, and get together.

This week’s subject is “Primal”.

  • “Primal” - Mesozoic, Paleolithic, or even Hyborian - Dinosaurs, Mammoths, Cavemen, Barbarians, think prehistoric and harkening back to a more savage, wild age.

The rules are simple. 1 subject, 1 entry, 1 week.
You create whatever object or scene or whatever you can think of that has something to do with the subject. It can be as simple or complicated as you want, all entries are welcome!
Post your picture here in this thread. At the end of the week, we start to vote. And if you are the winner, you may choose the next subject and win a unique badge.

Deadline: 2025-05-03T21:55:00Z

Barbarians need an axe and a shield to be successful :axe:

Haven’t used blender in more than a year. I’m thinking of getting back into it so I thought I would make something.

People sometimes forget fish are pretty primal.
Also, the models you guys made above are great.

I had a lot of free time this week, and I went all out for this one. I embraced a Conan the Barbarian-esque concept, and poured hours into the piece to try to capture a primal and raw barbaric power couple of an ancient age, flanked by creatures equally as dangerous as they.

I however failed to live up to my concept, as it called for a Tyrannosaurus to be in the background, as depicted in this image here, where I downloaded a model from Sketchfab and retextured it just to show what the image in my head looked like, had I not run out of time.

However this Entry image, I believe still captures the essence and feel for what I was going for. I have won the last two collabs and would be lying if I said I wasn’t really hoping for a Triple Crown, but we’ll see!

Nothing in the weekly challenge requires you to be the one to model everything in your scene from what I recall. The project just needs to include some elements that were made in Blender, even if that’s gathering assets other people made and putting them together in a scene yourself.

Hopefully someone will correct me if I’m wrong - but if your first image is your vision, there’s nothing preventing it from being your official entry!

We @BlenderCollab have a few days to vote. You can vote fast but also think slowly about design, colors, technique, difficulty, subject, realism, etc. Choose consciously and not on your entry.
The new subject week 19 “Nerdcore” has already started. The winner of this week’s “Primal” challenge may select a subject for next week 20 and win a badge.

@SweetOblivion congratulations on your beautiful collage of primal subjects. The details speak for themselves and contribute to the primal instinct feeling.

  • gallmerci - I love the detail and artwork, it fits the Iron Age better than the Stone Age.
  • Oliver_Noone-Jones - The concept looks promising. The Collab project is also about time management. What can you do in the time you spend on the given subject.

Note: I don’t want to offend anyone. I try to write down positive ideas and visions in my simple use of the English language. I am also sometimes more inspired by a particular subject or solution. I’m also learning from you!
