The reason I want to complete this course is because I’ve always wanted to make my own video games for a living. I’ve help others make their games for a living. I want to make my own games full time and be able to support myself and my family with the games I create. I hope to one day create strategy games that even rival companies like Activision/blizzard. To get through tough times I will take one step at a time, keep going , and try to learn one more thing each day.
Hello. I want to start developing game design skills in the hopes of changing my career to a related field in the next 1-2 years, with the long-term goal of technical artist. When things get difficult I plan to take a small break and focus on the other skills I’m working on, like drawing and 3d sculpting. I also plan to take these skills and start applying them on a game I’ve been planning with a friend, so that also motivates me!
I’m in the middle of that Dunning Krieg Curve (https://imgur.com/gallery/BAXIkgR), but I’m not sure where. I going to through this course to be far enough along the curve that I can be confident in my apply to pursue and find an Intermediate to Senior position in game dev for either Unreal or Unity3D.
I have already made several games but through another engine. The limitations of that engine and what I can do and create with it (along with the quality) are the driving factors of pursuing this course. Ultimately I would love to make games for a living as a business owner and not working for someone else. The reality is that I may have to work for someone else but it requires years of experience in that engine / language usually as a requirement for a hiring position. I would love to broaden my abilities to open up opportunities in several different ways for a career change! Not knowing where to begin was the hard part and I don’t have the money / time for years of collage. I feel comfortable starting with something so specific to my need, thanks for creating this course!
Hello everyone!,
I, like most people here, have a passion for video games. I have a masters in biotechnology and have sort of hit a roadblock career-wise. I am looking into learning c++, and thought it would be clever to further channel my new skills into something I have a passion for ( carrot meet stick).
I would like to try to create an eclectic mix of projects and hopefully find one that matches my skills and enjoyment.
For tough times, I hope to rely on this community. I also plan to use the same grit & determination that I have used to get me through grad school. It is good to set goals as well as to set time for cooldown and reflection.
Hello everyone,
I have been programming enterprise-level software for quite some time (SAP, Azure, etc.). I’ve never worked with C++ though, nor have I done anything approaching game programming. I’m doing this to both broaden my horizons and to challenge myself in new ways. Looking forward to it
Kind regards,
Mike
A combination of hating my current job but enjoying the aspect of it that is similar to programming and always having wanted to learn programming but not being keen on going to university for it as I don’t learn anything by having people talk at me I need to actively be doing stuff as I’m learning making this course perfect for me.
While gaming as an industry is in a sorry state right now at the very least I’ll be able to take the skills learnt into more general programming jobs while it sorts itself out and use it to entertain myself with mods I’ve always wished existed for games in the meantime.
I have recently started diving into the world of VR and want to develop the skillset I need to enable more powerful and realistic VR experiences through improved software.
Also, I want to develop a good understanding of how my computer “thinks” and functions. I want to gain confidence that I have a valuable technical skillset that people will provide good compensation for, and I want to improve my creative thinking and problem solving skills.
Hi there,
I want to learn everything I can in UE and C++ to apply for jobs in gaming industries. Also, it’ll force me to practice my English even more than before.
To get through harsh moments, I talk about my problems to others. Sometimes I find a solution simply by writing what’s wrong, some other times, answers of the community push me in a way I didn’t think of, and so can I take a step forward. But most importantly, if I struggle really hard on something, I take a break (doing/learning others things), and then come back to have a clear mind over the problem.
My medium/long-term objective is having a decent portfolio to show to potentials recruiters. I won’t stop until it’s done , because i’m not happy with my actual job and actual skills, and that sole feeling is more than enough to make me persevere through the course.
Hello I’m Fran!
I started this course for two reasons:
First, in my job I have to analyze a new product that is made with Unreal and create some tools for it. My tasks are to create a simple Unreal video game demo that includes that product for the marketing team and to develop a tool to test that product in a easier way using a video game UI so the testing team can use it.
And the second reason it’s due to my passion for developing video games. I learnt Unity one year ago but I’m having problems to find a job in the spanish game industry, so I want to learn a new skill to make video games and have more opportunities to work as video game developer.
I know that this course is not going to be easy, but I have to do it because my professional career depends of it, so I have to do it
Best regards,
Fran
I work as haematology doctor, i want to try to learn how to program and aim to develop something relevant for looking after patients with blood disorders
Hi Ben!
Thanks for putting on the course. I am a business developer by day, hoping to make some headway into game dev as a hobby. Ive dabbled with GMS2 and Unity, now time to try my hand at UE4.
I hope to feel confident with C++ (which Ive never used) as well as the innards of the engine. I am hoping to make a sci fi twin stick shooter with a strong story element.
Hoping also to connect with this community and make some friends with similar interests.
Have a good one!
- Jonathan
Video games are a great way to passively learn or strengthen a skill. As an Engineering student, my motivation for this course is to ultimately create my own games with content from my classes. I believe this will make studying dense content more enjoyable.
I’m like most of the students on this course and looking to one day write my own game.
However my perseverance with the course is that I’m part of the review group working with Ben and Gavin on the Redux and so I feel a huge commitment to you all to ensure I stick it through to the end of the course rework to give newbie advice to make it a better experience.
Hi all,
I want to learn c++ and unreal because i love programming and do it for almost 1 year now im currently 17 and learning programming at school. I dont learn it as much as I want to so I learn programming by myself and have done 2 personal projects in python and java. My goal is it to sell assets in the unreal store or to help people building their game to get soem money besides my school. And also I want to learn it beacuse I want to get more programming skills. (sorry for my bad english )
Hello everyone,
I’m taking this course because I have an interest in programming and game development, but also because I want to step out of my comfort zone and start doing something with my time.
I hope that this course will motivate me to pursue further programming or game development courses so that I can expand my skill set.
I really want to be able to create a experience for others rather than just playing their creations, so that is what will keep me going with this course.
Hello,
Im taking this course so I can learn coding that way I can help my team further progress are game that we are making. Also I really want to learn this because I want to know this for game development in general.
Hello world! (Cheesy I know)
I have been taking this course for a while now and really enjoy the way you teach. I really aspire to be a game dev who can bring joy to all with my creations. That’s all I really want!
How will I get through tough times? I try to keep myself level headed knowing that I will accomplish my goals in the future and I am only struggling in the moment, almost like a hurdle I just have to get over. Optimism is key. Also, achieving something I’ve dreamed of is amazing and I feel passion will always keep me going.
Hi, I’m taking this course because I’d like to understand more about C++.
I work for an automotive SW development company in marketing communications. I’d like to understand more about the language to better relate to the dev’s I work with (so they know I’ve got the chops). I love the idea of learning about the language while learning how to design computer games, seems like a really accessible way in to me.
Looking forward to seeing what the course has to offer.
Hi, I’m taking this course because I’m starting to do a project at the university.
I think the Udemy course is perfect. I work programming Web Applications in Java. I know a bit about C ++ and I hope to learn more about C ++ and Unreal.
