The Blender Collab: Weekly Themed Gallery (Week 15: 2017) Cars

You guys are awesome for posting your work methods! great to see how other people do it and how far off track your methods are from others! Love the how to tire creation post!! Turns out i work similar with mirrors sub surf and making panels …was not sure if thats the right way or not  Since everyone else is doing it and turning out amazing works i must be sort of on track hahah

My bugatti is slowly very slowly starting to look some-what like a bugatti lol still not done blocking it out …i will probably be working on this for at least a month! Probably more to get it right i should have picked an easier car!.. I just threw on some quick textures and did a very quick render to see how its looking …needs sooooooo much work yet i don’t think a single part of it is right so far lol

yeah that is right @rszarka. Your method explanations were really useful. I tried out your tire-making-method, @Jarhead_Junior and it works quite well. One thing bothers me anyway…

My problem with this is, that as you can see, the distance between the arrayed and deformed hexagons is not always the same (it is basically only the distance between the first and last)… do you know how that happened and maybe how to fix it?
In addition I put the rotation of the empty in the lower right corner defining the deforms rotation…

Kolupsky I wish i knew the answer for you mate! I have no worked much with the deform modifier… if its a problem with the polar array i did a tutorial on that awhile back …they can be tricky to get to work just right! Hopefully someone that knows the answer to your question will pipe in here for you i know how frustrating it can be when one of these damned functions don’t work right !

Mcfuzz: Just wanted to ask since you are the host /brain child of the weekly thread. Most of us did not finish our cars by the end of this week … would it be ok for us to post the final result of our vehicles here after the weekly has ended or keep this thread clean and we should make another thread just for that? As i know we would all like to see each others final result…

I think we can spend another week on this theme.

-sings- Woke up in rszarka’s Bugatti, Woke up in rszarka’s Bugatti, Woke up in… -record scratch-

I couldn’t help myself :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Just dropping by to say nice job to everyone :+1::+1: I remember when I started with Blender doing a truck.

(Not for Contest)

So it’s nice to see the work done by others if I decide to work on cars in the future. Thanks for sharing~

PS: Anyone wanna buy this? Low Cost with only 22 payments of $39.95!!!

Hey guys! Sorry I missed this one, not too into cars and the long weekend tricked me!

Feel free to post up your entries after the weekly has ended, however for the purpose of continuing the weeklies, we’ll have to have the vote between today and tomorrow.

I like the scalextric style

The winner with 50% of the votes is @Stefan_Stockinger! Congratulations.

@Stefan_Stockinger, if you could please create a thread containing your topic for this week, that would be great, thanks

Congrats Stefan a very well deserved win mate ! How is finishing your Citroen coming along?
How about your Hyundai Jarhead? It looks sooo sharp and perfect already in the progresss shot you posted!
My car is ******* me off, too curvy so hours of point pulling …i hate bugattis now too curvy lol
Still a mountain of work to do …a few parts to add and lots of cleaning up / shaping but slowly getting there…

Thanks for the votes  I’ve just created a thread.

Your model is really coming together nice. Yes, such curvy cars are really hard to do. Getting it look right and not bumpy or edgy.
I guess my model will be done by today.
Btw. you should eject your external drives properly :joy:

TY Stefan!! Yes i always forget to eject my external drives hahaha Right you are about curvy objects this one will make me insane hahah dunno how you got your car so close to being done so quickly!! I will be working at this a month to get it done lol …its only almost done blocking out so far …still have to finish that …add details …properly texture build some parts its a ****** monster job but won’t stop until i have an exact replica of one of these stup[id things lol
Hey quick question for ya…every single time i make a complex model like this i go through a stage where i think no way this is going to work…cant be done! But then i push through and it works out! Does that happen with you, where you doubt you can pull it off at some point but always works out if you push through?
Usually its when i get to point pulling and make sure all the vertices are in a line and the mesh topology is clean where it starts to come together and feel like it may actually work … seems to happen with me every single time this way!

It’s totally normal to feel overwhelmed in the beginning of something big. Happens to me as well. But you need to just break it down, do it step by step.
The biggest mistake would be to rush through it. It won’t look good and you will either work on a junky mesh until it’s fixed or do it all over again. Both ways consume more time than doing it at a slower pace with eyes on the detail in the first place.

Guess I’m done. The interior isn’t as detailed, but you wouldn’t see it anyway. It took about 15 hours to do the whole scene. I’m going to render a video (those shots are already from the animated camera), but in 720p because it would need too much time.

Stefan this Citroen of yours turned out amazing mate! First class job very professional, i can’t find one single fault with it…really amazing job i was not sure if the actual car had such a flat side but googled it and it does haha I want one of these its a sweet vehicle! and damn you did that in 15 hours and finished this whole project in a week! It has taken me that long just to block mine out let alone finish it! This is great, you should put it for sale on turbosquid or one of those as a high poly citroen people can use for renders or add to videos etc Its perfect for something like that! Really great model mate, very impressive! I love when the weekly has a great topic like this that some of us can really get into! I know many people don’t like doing cars but for those of us that enjoy making them this was a great week with great models and lots of good discussion and learning material…great stuff! Be sure and post the video you spoke of after the 500 hours it takes to render lol

I am literally blown away by the fantastic work in this week’s gallery. Well done to everyone who participated and help to encourage and inspire others

@rszarka Haha, yeah. At first I was fairly happy with my car but now I’m about to go back and redo it now that I know what mistakes that I made. The front part that is like <=====> is just connected to the bottom rather then looping around, the sides has lost detail in it, and it has some pulling issues. So I’m about to restart and took the time to draw a low poly solution over the reference image to make this task easier.

Jarhead! Thanks so much for posting this! What a great idea to map out your edge loop flows ahead of time!! I rebuild my meshes several times over the course of a build…this would solve that! Awesome mate thanks a ton for this post , best idea ever! That is going to be a tricky car to build lots of little difficult areas on it! Little parts jutting out and its curvy…will be a good challenge!

Finally done blocking out, smoothing and aligning / joining panels creating windows.making visible engine parts and logo emblems tail lights .a few small things to correct then onto making final parts …tail fin …rear view mirrors grills little misc stuff… My lighting suck and is too dark in these low sample renders! Anyone know where i can get a good studio setup for automobile renders?
