On this lecture, @Rick_Davidson said that there was a art design template. I couldn’t find it in the resources attached to this lecture. Is this a resource that we will have access to? Thanks.

@George_Rooney Thanks for spotting this and apologies for the resources being missing! I’ve added them just now, please let me know if you can see them and access them now.

I got a day off so how to spend your day better than diving into setting the art direction of my game! I’m working on my version of the Art Direction Concept Document.

  • Concept of my RPG can be found here
  • Level sketch can be found here

For the people who do not want to checkout the document entirely, these are some pics that sum up my art style pretty much (for NPC and player robot styles, checkout the art document). Let me know what you guys think!

Camera angle and colors

Create depth with fog and color use.

Colors

There will be a pallet for the different rings

Call-to-action colors

Popout their environment like the new zelda enemies colors compared with their environment

some really interesting concepts are popping out of here  that makes me a bit shy, and afraid to put mine due to how weak in comparison, but i guess hesitation is the worst enemy so here it is.

Art Concept Direction Document.

feel free to leave your thoughts and comments as comments on my doc, i’d really appreciate it. it would be really helpful

@JeroenBoumans
really interesting art style you got over there, i wonder how it will turn out.
and the color choice is really interesting, with it i do believe your game can go south really quickly with simply a blink of an eye, while it still looks kinda futuristic destroyed world Apocalypse. at least when i imagine the destroyed future with a a lot of machines, i can totally see a lot of the colors you’ve picked (the first image at least). so, just saying, your choice over there is spot on, from my perspective.

and for the call to action colors, they do fit, and absolutely attract attention, especially with some small neat animation.

@Marc_Carlyon it does look solid, to say the least, looks like a really typical fitting neat art style for an RPG, though looking at the art style, i must say, your game is looking really promising. and it looks like its totally embracing the fantasy settings i think it has a lot of variety, which can be difficult to obtain, but if done right it can totally go well.

@MoMutrz Thank you for the kind words!

I’ve checked your Art Concept document very quickly. I like the voxel setup you’ll use in your game. I also think the isometric camera angle would work good. Maybe, because you’ve also noted performance in your document, it would be interesting to use very low res voxel models at first and upscale when you decide to use more detail. I’m curious how this isometric type of voxelart works out in a game. It’ll be more iconic design I guess but nonetheless interesting. Maybe something like this (but in isometric):

Great job so far!

Thankyou for the kind words and feedback @MoMutrz
I like the ADD you made its well planned and thought out with a great deal of useful information.
Sadly feedback on graphics would be poor from me as i never really got the whole voxel art games. I only just recently picked up minecraft to make stuff when i cant use blender
Still i look forward to your progress as just because i dont play the games doesnt mean i dont have a vested interest in learning how one is made

Making a Moomin-inspired RPG. Art-style and atmosphere will be somewhat similar.

Here’s my art concept document:

Hoping I can stay motivated long enough to make a playable game.

looks like a rather varied, and ambitious art you’re aiming for.
though i must say, your choices on the monsters are top notch, they all look unique and special  well chosen. and i’d be quite interested in the big variations within levels (from the different locations.)
