- Platform Goals…
I would like to develop some games and experiences for Google Cardboard, as that has the lowest cost of entry, and I suspect the deepest market penetration as a result. The very simplistic control options appeal to me, though I do wish we could monitor all six degrees of freedom there.
I’d also like to support Cardboard and Daydream in the same deployment, if possible. Dynamic graphics quality, optional control schemes, etc.
(And then, drilling down a bit further, I’m on Android myself, though I do have an iPod Touch I could probably develop with, somewhere. Finding it is the challenge.)
I do have the Occulus Rift for personal use, but am not so excited about trying to compete in the PC market. Perhaps this will change, if I have a solid idea to develop for it later.
Playstation VR is another story. I’ve been gearing up to join Sony’s partner program and get my hands on a dev kit. I should meet all of the requirements now, but I’d like to have another project or two under my belt before applying.
- Creative/Project Goals…
I believe in developing for the platform. Design and test interactions, then build an experience around those. As such, I’m trying not to be so attached to any one idea at this stage. Let’s just dive into the hardware and see what resonates.
(That said, I am absolutely in love with “Allumette”, and am inspired by this to tell stories through VR. That does mean PC or Playstation, for me, as what grabbed me more than anything was the ability to look closer at the action by sticking your head into it.)
