This is the Blender Collaboration 2025, week 35 challenge. Don’t be afraid to join, a lot of us are beginners. This is all to practice, have fun, learn, and get together.
This week’s subject is “Fire department”.
“Fire department” - We chose the fire department theme. Anything fire-related is welcome. We think this is a topic where everyone has something cool to contribute.
The rules are simple. 1 subject, 1 entry, 1 week.
You create whatever object or scene or whatever you can think of that has something to do with the subject. It can be as simple or complicated as you want, all entries are welcome!
Post your picture here in this thread. At the end of the week, we start to vote. And if you are the winner, you may choose the next subject and win a unique badge.
When you import an asset, you can do so as a copy (append). Changes are easy to make, but updating the original will not affect the copy. When needed a lot of work gets lost.
The “Linked” option links changes to the original asset to the copy. Initially, you can’t change anything in this cloned and linked version, except its position in the scene.
However, I’d like to be able to influence the armature (different pose) and/or materials. Apparently, you can unlock these locked parts with ‘Library overwrite’. However, it’s often unclear to me how and what exactly happens in the linked instance.
The mesh parts are then ‘open’, but their scale differs (which in turn means the asset isn’t properly set up in its base). Then still you can’t link parts (mesh) to an armature. What would that even mean.
Hello, to be honest, I didn’t have any time to deal with this topic today, but I still wanted to keep at it and submit something. I hope I’ll have more time soon and can put more effort into lighting and textures, especially; those are exactly the areas I absolutely need and want to improve… Have a nice weekend everyone!
We @BlenderCollab have a few days to vote. You can vote fast but also think slowly about design, colors, technique, difficulty, subject, realism, etc. Choose consciously and not on your entry.
The new subject week 36 “Video games” has already started. The winner of this week’s “Fire department” challenge may select a subject for next week 37 and win a badge.
Congratulations, FedPete. A professional firefighter is at work here…
I’m having a lot of trouble with this asset. It turns out the original no longer exists. And I didn’t have the time (or inclination) to create a new one. Which just emphasizes the importance of building and maintaining assets properly.
etikque - Great playful action scene. If you add a part of a fire truck then it would fit more the “department” subject.
Srl1 - It could be a Doom game prop. Nicely crafted and well chosen textures.
Note: I don’t want to offend anyone. I try to write down positive ideas and visions in my simple use of the English language. I am also sometimes more inspired by a particular subject or solution. I’m also learning from you!
