This is the Blender Collaboration 2025, week 34 challenge. Don’t be afraid to join, a lot of us are beginners. This is all to practice, have fun, learn, and get together.
This week’s subject is “Musical instrument”.
“Musical instrument” - A musical instrument is a device created or adapted to make musical sounds. In principle, any object that produces sound can be considered a musical instrument.
The rules are simple. 1 subject, 1 entry, 1 week.
You create whatever object or scene or whatever you can think of that has something to do with the subject. It can be as simple or complicated as you want, all entries are welcome!
Post your picture here in this thread. At the end of the week, we start to vote. And if you are the winner, you may choose the next subject and win a unique badge.
A little bit of HS fun. The rare musical instrument, known as the Theremin, was invented in 1920 by Léon Theremin. It’s played without physical contact, using only hand movements to control pitch and volume.
My latest Blender project – a drum kit placed in a gritty rock basement. I’m still a beginner, but I had a lot of fun working on the atmosphere, lighting, and details to give it that raw underground vibe. Feedback and tips are always welcome!
This is my contribution to this weeks Collab. Not your typical musical instrument. Credit to Humyay, Flutie8211, and Cindynhiart (https://pixabay.com/) for the pictures on the dial.
We @BlenderCollab have a few days to vote. You can vote fast but also think slowly about design, colors, technique, difficulty, subject, realism, etc. Choose consciously and not on your entry.
The new subject week 35 “Fire department” has already started. The winner of this week’s “Musical instruments” challenge may select a subject for next week 36 and win a badge.
@etikque, congratulations on your drum kit submission for the musical instruments topic. The scene is well-designed, and the room is definitely a place you’d expect to find a drum kit. It gives you, as a 3D developer, the freedom to customize the whole thing and create atmosphere.
Megane_Wang - Beautiful model. Good use of the lights (highlight). The blue is modern, but it’s unexpected … could be showing beautiful wood in an upgrade. Well deserve second place.
Michael_Legrande - Also a very nice instrument model. Good details and shape. It think the presentation could be a bit more playful.
Srl1 - Nice instrument. I like your presentation, like in a glossy magazine. But perhaps the machine as a musical instrument is less well-known and recognizable to the viewer.
Bill_Menot - I still think it’s a good entry and it fits the subject very well! Especially the way you tell a story within the scene, where it’s not just about showing the toys, but also about the context it provides. I think with a bit more textures it should have scored points.
Note: I don’t want to offend anyone. I try to write down positive ideas and visions in my simple use of the English language. I am also sometimes more inspired by a particular subject or solution. I’m also learning from you!
Likely so: when I look at it now again I see that some surfaces could have benefited from textures indeed. Nevertheless, I had fun with geo- and shader nodes, and some physics, and was pleased with the end result. I’ll take your comment into account next time around. Thank you for your feedback!
