Why is my UV mapping different than Grant's

Blender Environment Artist: Create 3D Worlds - Lecture 22 Marking seams. Why does my unwrap go diagonal when Grant’s is Vertical in the UV Editor?

I don’t think it’s the answer you’re looking for.

However, using the diagonal means more texture space for the UV Island.

Different Blender version. Later versions changed the unwrapping algorithm.
