What are your favourite games right now, and what makes them your favourite?

It is debatable whether it is a game or a social networking platform but, I enjoy Second Life and In-Worlds where I can create things…like in Blender…and upload them to make my world as I want it to be. Other than that, I use to play World of Warcraft for a few years but truly, I prefer to create my own environments to share with others in Virtual Worlds.

I’m addicted to Factorio although I swear I will put it aside soon, not to return until Release so as not to exhaust the Fun before it’s Done. It is complex, difficult, creative, challenging and fun. It truly shows that fun game-play is the most important requirement for a game to be great. The first game ever to fill this slot on my “desktop” was naturally Transport Tycoon Deluxe (although, back then, we were all on DOS. later, openTTD.) Kerbal Space Programme, FEZ, Antichamber, SpaceChem, city simulations and the like have yielded good times too.

Trackmania is currently my source of intermissions from serious work or concentration. In the past, Quake III, Terraria, action RPGs and other “light” entertainment have filled this slot.

Dreamfall: Chapters is my current destination for story-time. In the past, Myst, Riven and other sequels, other Dreamfalls, just about any game from Daedalic have fitted here.

The game of Go is permanently on my mind, although I have sometimes found brief satisfaction in other puzzles, such as my personal Hexcells quest: solve all the Hexcells games with zero mistakes and the rules that you can’t try a puzzle again immediately after a mistake (if you have mastered the patterns of thought, you can solve all the puzzles with only the information that is provided and mistakes reveal information that shouldn’t be necessary. a few days break (and, ideally, attempts on other puzzles) is required to obscure that revealed information.)

I used to do Second Life and that was my intro to 3D building. But things kept changing in there so much and I had a hard time finding places to build and keep things that I finally left. Haven’t been in a couple of years.

Laser Defender! , now the fun begins…

I have enjoyed Grim Dawn alot. I thought Broforce or the Expendibles (broforce demo) was quite entertaining. My fav of late has been Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light. Both Metros for £4 on Steam and it has been very impressive for the money!

The first gaming systems i acquired were PC, Amiga 500, SNES and PSX, probably why most of my favorite games are from these consoles. Some examples of the games i loved and still love are Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World, Alundra, Zelda 3, Tomb Raider 1-3, Final fantasy VI-IX, Doom and many more.
For multiplayer i really enjoyed Unreal Tournament, Quake 1-3, Counter-Strike, Sensible Soccer(Amiga and SNES), Mario Kart (SNES and N64, both of them were perfect split-screen action), Bubble Bobble and World of Warcraft.

Some of the stuff I appreciate in games:
+Sword slashing, rolling and charge-shots
+Infinite ammo (pistols in Tomb Raider is one reason the combat felt fast at the time).
+Fun color palette
+Good responsive movement
+Enemies that have good variety of movement patterns and looks, and ofcourse good boss fights
+Secrets that are worth finding, and unlocks more than a stupid achievement
+Good, suitable music
+Puzzles and other stuff that makes me feel smart after completing

Examples of modern games I did not love, and some reasons why:
-Quantum Break: Boring enemies that are all identical. Boring combat, you just have to shoot some enemies and then go hide to reload weapons and regenerate health. And repeat.
-Uncharted series: Same reasons as QB, but not as bad. Also collecting secrets here doesn’t feel like it’s worth the effort. The story is quite interesting though, and good levels.
-Recore: The color switching on the gun gets old quick and feels like a cheap way to add variety to combat. Color palette of the world is really dull and the lootable items all have the same icons. The game just feels like it was rushed to make a deadline. Did i mention loading times after dying? :sleepy: Quite fun movement though, the game had potential.
-Zelda Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess on Wii: I hated the motion controls on Twilight princess, its better on the Skyward Sword though. Probably this type of controls will be good for VR, time will show (I haven’t tried VR-gaming yet, just VR-video). Also the tear-collecting in both games almost made me throw the Wii out the window.
-Witcher 3: I can’t describe it but somehow the hours i put into the game doesn’t feel worth it. Felt too much “on-rails” even if it is an open world. Side-quests was not worth it, they gave almost no experience-points compared to main quests, and items acquired was quickly replaced by stronger ones found on the main quest areas. Combat and story were good though, so I finished this game and the DLC’s eventually.

I also enjoy modern games, and lately i played the two new Tomb Raider games which i liked, Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, Xenoblade Chronicles X and at the moment downloading the new Doom (30 hours :sob:) which I probably will enjoy!

Fortnite! It’s so addicting.

My all time favorite is The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword on Wii. The reasons I live this game are it’s game play (Best motion control experience), Graphics (on such rock bottom resources) Story line. The online game I love is Triviador that is because it challenges our brain differently. It is a combination of strategy and real time quiz.

Monster hunter world on ps4, me and my wife used to play it on ps2 before we where married as date nights because we where living in different states at the time. If you want to quest with us send me a message

Hunt: Showdown by Crytek, built with the Cryengine

A multiplayer, monster hunting, survival shooter.

Why it appeals:

  • Instance based nature of the game,
  • High risk, high reward cycle,
  • Perma-death mechanic and perpetual sense of vulnerability,
  • PVE and PVP aspects,
  • Co-op gameplay,
  • General aesthetic of the game (set in late 19th century) and ambiance (especially during night hunts)

Those are just a few points that make this game appealing and give it the potential to grow and establish a firm player base (with the possibility of it becoming a life-style game as well).

Genres: multi-player, first-person shooter, survival, dynamic sandbox, exploration

Only pc I take it?

It appears so, for now.

Half-Life will never be beat, but if any games come close they are Mass Effect and Dark Souls. Half-Life tells a compelling story by letting the player take in the world as opposed to shoving set pieces in their face through cut-scenes. Mass Effect combines space exploration and story-building (as opposed to story telling) by allowing the player to make decisions that impact the world not only in that single game but also throughout the whole series. Dark Souls perfectly combines reaction and skill with using numbers and math to make your player as powerful as possible.

(My first comment! Woohoo!)

I’m playing lots of Overwatch with my brother, Stardew Valley (now also with my brother, thanks to the multiplayer beta update!), RimWorld is easily my most-played game (in part because you can leave your poor colonists to do their own thing without you as you do dishes or go outside), and I recently finished Breath of the Wild (which, hands-down, is probably the deepest, most enjoyable, and most memory-making game I’ve ever played).

My all time favorite is Dark Souls 3. It’s everything I want a game to be.
My second favorite would be Pyre. I was immersed on another level.
Other contenders would be Dragons Dogma (+Dark Arisen), Bloodborne, Nier: Automata, Pokemon Platinum & HeartGold, Tomb Raider for the PS4, The World Ends with You, Chrono series, Monster Hunter 3 and League of Legends (Seasons 3 and 4).

Fallout New Vegas is one of the best games of all time. The gameplay, the atmosphere, the tasks are amazing there.

My alltime favourite will always be Terranigma.
But for now, I really enjoy to play Horizon Forbidden West and Atomic Heart. And last month I finished Moonlighter. :3
