Welcome to the Unity Section 1 sub-forum

Hello, my name is Kevin and I’m an experienced game developer. After giving Unity a few tries on my own, I’ve decided that a full course is the best way forward. I’m interested in portfolio-building, practicing C#, and of course having fun. Cheers, all.

Hello! My name is Bryan, and I’m excited to be taking this course!

I have VERY LITTLE knowledge of programming and coding, but I am willing to put in the hard work and study to learn. What better way than to jump right in and through a study that has more interest to me. Experience can be the best teacher.

Anyways, thanks to @ben and the rest of this community, which I hope will help along through this course!

When I find a “reply” button I always worry that I am replying to a message and not the forum section. I think I can claim victory on this one though and not get too hung-up on the human factors of the forum here…

My name is Dennis. This is my first post, here. I don’t know whether it is my user name that is shown instead . You can find out more about the connection of names at Orcmid’s Lair and my LinkedIn profile.

I have too many Udemy courses (the others all being about learning to play guitar), but I couldn’t resist a Welcome to Unity (along with the Microsoft Virtual Academy courses that touch on this area too).

My experience with computer games is a bit different, since I started programming in 1958. Currently, I am converting the original Colossal Cave text adventure, pretty much the first text adventure. I’m making it a demonstration of producing it as an open-source-style Clean C Language console application, Adv10. That project is on GitHub but not in a state where anything useful happens yet.

I have always been fascinated by computer games and wanting to produce them. Instead, lately, I have been learning to play them as recreation for me. My favorites are the two latest Tomb Raider versions, although I gave up on Rise of the Tomb Raider near the end when it got ridiculous. On just plain “Tomb Raider” I am stuck trying to parachute through the forest without getting impaled on a tree. I did complete “Fire Watch” and have become a fan of what seem to be called walking adventures, I guess because the walking is in a 3D space and not like a side-scroller.

I stil want to produce games. One challenge I have set for myself is to take the original Adventure, once completed as a text adventure, through all the stages to reach a modern form that goes beyond text and deals with accessibility, internationalization, and working on all manner of contemporary devices. That should keep me busy in my “retirement.” I want this to demonstrate the software engineering of games (and other apps), in an evolutionary manner, starting with depending only on freely-available development tools and requiring as few of those as possible at each stage.

I am at the stage of my vocation where giving back is paramount.

I admire what I have seen of “… The Complete Unity Developer.” The mix of novices and experienced developers will be interesting too.

Oh, and there are badges!

My name is Todd Vance. I’m a senior dev in Nashville, TN.
I love game programming and took Ben’s Complete Unity course and loved it.
I just purchased the Blender course… I never had interest in making graphics but have been 3d printing like crazy and just realized what an asset being able to create my own 3d stuff would be to me and my printing.
Can’t wait to get rolling!!!

Hey Everyone,

My name is Brian Wilkins, I live in Chicago but born & raised in Seattle/Southern California. I am taking part so, I can become a part, of the Unity developer community. I currently manage 6 apps/games developed by Love Apps in Unity… but don’t know how to program myself. Here’s to a new start. I want to learn what my programmers are really going through. I want to feel their pain…lol.
Actually this course was a gift from one of my intern developers…Thanks Jamie King!

Also thanks for all the help from the community in advance.

Check me out at www.teamloveapps.com or Twitter @LoveApps27

Have a great day…Stay warm everyone!

I’m in Seattle but have no idea what is OC: The Other Coast?
I was born and raised in Tacoma and have lived on both coasts. I got back to Seattle via Manhattan, Philadelphia, Rochester NY, Silicon Valley and then back to the Pacific Northwest.

Oh, and I did live in Kankakee for two years in the 3rd-4th grades, so I always love to hear “The Spirit of New Orleans.”

Now there’s a thought for some kind of side-scroller. A mystery train.

[Oh, another mystery solved about the “Reply” buttons after messages. This is a reply to Brian Wilkins but it apparently shows up as just another post. More tacit knowledge to unravel

Nice. I was raised in Shoreline. The OC is Orange County California, Garden Grove specifically.

Thanks for the response back. Good Luck using Unity!

Fear not, Irene. I can recall when there was no BASIC (except maybe gestating at Dartmouth).

However, I suspect that does not make me, born in 1939, the oldest here. MOOCs are a great opportunity for retirees as well as others for whom the Internet is a Godsend.
