Victorian House

I’m going to be creating a Queen Anne style of house for this section. I’ve looked up a floor plan that matches how I want the house to look. I will be making minor changes to it though.

And some pictures for the layout of the exterior.
I’ve probably bit off a lot with this, but I’ll be using it in the future so it will be worth it.

I’ve got a lot of work to do.

Lesson 170-171
I can see why a version control program would work for someone wanting to work in 3D modeling professionally and with teams of others, but I’m not looking to do either of those, so I think I’ll stick with my current file system. It seems to be working for me just fine.

I’m very interested to see how I’ll pull these off.

Since I’m not following along exactly I’ve figured these would be the pieces I’ll be needing.

Some interesting geometry I guess.

Not quite what Michael meant by simple room, but it’s what I need.

I love old Victorian houses so will be very interested to see this completed.

I’ll probably end up using these lessons backward or not at all for this project. I’m really only here to learn proper UV unwrapping and texturing. The rest I don’t think I’ll ever need to use (just like trigonometry), but it’s nice to know that it’s there. This thread probably won’t be updated until I’m finished as I’m not responding to every lesson.

Finished modeling everything. Thought I’d update the thread. The foundation is just a place holder because I need to add a basement, but I’ll be revisiting this in the destruction section.

Hey Nixe,

That’s really nice work there. The indoor shots are really cool. I’ll wait for an update after you do all the UV and lighting.

I also hate version control programs, but I’m gonna be getting into more complexity the more assets, blueprints, and other resources I make for what I’m currently doing.

Love the Obi-wan, too! Thanks for sharing.

Have a great day~

Very nicely detailed and well done. Look forward to seeing the finished product.

Another advantage of components is your walls have a nice uniform thickness (unlike my little issueI was having with extruded house foundation  )

Hey Nixe,

That looks really good already… :open_mouth:
I’m looking forward to see the end result of your project.
I’m currently in S07L185… I follow along the complete course.

Have a great day,
Bram

@James_Ran Thanks :relaxed: I’m not sure how long the texturing battle will take, but I’ll be sure to post when I’m done.

@Morgaine_Christensen Thank you :relaxed: I think I had to re-do the walls a few times to get the thickness right on all of them. Still, I made an extruded mock up of the floor plan a few months ago and it didn’t come out too bad. It did take 4 tries to get it right though.

@Bram_van_Vliet Thanks :relaxed: That’s where I am, I used profile modeling for the arches in the fireplace. It was the quickest way to do them. I can’t get a feel for how this section is put together. It just doesn’t flow for me right now. I’ll probably end up coming back later in the year and do it the right way, but for now I want to experiment.

This is something I been working on but haven’t touched it in awhile to finish it. I should but have been in a funk for awhile and not felt like being very creative. This is strictly an exterior model is nothing on the inside like you have done. But, was fun when I started

LOL I think I had to redo this structure a couple of times to get it to texture correctly.

@Morgaine_Christensen I remember the post in the showcase for it. I’m sure you’ll finish it someday. The textures came out fantastic! I’m hoping mine will come out just as nice.

Yep, was in the showcase and still is only as far as I have gotten with. Got bored with it I put so many hours into it. Was experimental as well.

Textures took a lot of tweaking and didn’t turn out too bad. I think when I learn more about Cycles they might end up even better. This particular building was textured via projection from view rather than marking and unwrapping it. It was more efficient to do it this way for this building and it’s purpose.

Looks like a decent prop for an old school isometric RPG.

Sorry, am not familiar with “isometric RPG”.

Well, a compuler role playing game set in isometric 2D environment. All the characters and props are actually prerendered 2D images but isometry creates illusion of 3D.
Some examples:

Fallout2

Arcanum

Shadowrun: Hong Kong

Thanks for the explanation. Not exactly what I had at the time when I made it ((was actually for a 3D virtual world)) but, yes, it would be like those in the images.
