The Blender Collab: Week 34 "What are you afraid of?"

I created the entire alphabet but, I only rendered a single sentence. I’ll need to figure out a better way of placing the letters before doing anything more complex.

@Capricas_Kirito as long as each letter is a single object, you could subdivide your plane and use vertex snapping. Your plane would essentially become “grid paper” for laying out your letters and words with a more uniform spacing.

I didn’t try this, just a thought on how it could be implemented.

AHA!! I don’t get to see braille often, so didn’t recognize it as such, but now that you mention it, I can see it as such. :slightly_smiling_face:

@Capricas_Kirito Very nice entry, my biggest fear is becoming blind. (since i already have horrible eyesight) I think this represents it well :fearful:

I totally understand that. My eyesight is already on borrowed time according to the doctors. And, since I had to give up my license 4 years ago due to poor eyesight, it’s only a matter of time for me.

I’ve had 35 years to come to grip with the reality that I will be blind. Sclera Lenses have pushed that day back a couple of years but, the day will come and it’s a bit harder to deal with the changes that will entail.

Wow. Can’t imagine the weight of knowing that you’ll be blind one day… Can I ask you, what the underlying illness is? I am a med student, so I’d be eager to know. But I also totally understand, if you wouldn’t want to share that.

On another note, some people suggested to give everyone 3 votes instead of just 1 for the voting poll. What do you guys think about that?

Yes I think the three votes will work well now that the collab has so many entries.

I can empathize. My mother developed Retinitis Pigmentosa in her 80s, and also had 2 Cataract procedures, which didn’t help at all. For someone who was a professional seamstress, this was very difficult for her to grasp and deal with.

My concern at the time was our then family Ophthalmologist told me it “could” be a hereditary issue. Luckily, when I started with my current Ophthalmologist, I told him of my mother’s condition years ago, and he said he saw nothing of that sort with my eyes, so I breathed a sigh of relief.

Now I just have to watch my eye pressure, as it does go up and down sometimes, and I don’t want to develop Glaucoma, which can also lead to blindness, if not watched.

I was diagnosed with Keratoconus when I was still a kid, the ophthalmologist at the time said I’d be blind by 30.

that one got my grandmother, though hers was related to diabetes.

As to the voting thing, I think it would be better if it were split by placement (ie 1 vote for “Winner”, 1 vote for “Runner-up”, and 1 vote for “Place”)

Goodness, that’s an infliction I’ve never heard of, so had to look it up.

As far as Glaucoma’s concerned, I’m not diabetic (thank goodness for a lot of reasons), so if we watch my eye pressure, I should be able to handle it.

What I didn’t mention in my earlier post is, back in 2012 and 2013, I had to go to a Retina specialist because my Ophthalmologist spotted what he thought was Retinal Vein Occlusion, as one of the veins in my left eye was swollen. Luckily the Retina specialist was able to get it under control, and it was a branch vein, and not the central vein which can cause major problems.

I like this idea as well.

Me too, I love the idea of voting for more submissions.

Guys, do you see the cake emoji next to my name? I’ve never seen it before, does anyone know what it means?

Also, sorry for not joining into the previous conversation, I just don’t have any stories of this sort. I honestly didn’t even know such illnesses exist. I can only imagine how difficult it must be.

It means that today is the anniversary of you joining the community!

@Capricas_Kirito Keratokonus - thanks for sharing.
And… How do you mean split by place? Not sure how I’d do that ^^

@Miss_B I am glad, that you don’t have a glaucoma :slight_smile:

“Braille” great entry. Becoming blind is one of the most feared topic worldwide. Though with the modern scientific discoveries losing eyesight is totally preventable.

Sorry to hear that, have faith in god he will take care of you

It’s a cool idea. Would be neat if we could have different point values for different place votes (e.g. first place vote is 5 points, a second place vote is 3, etc.), but I don’t think the forum poll is that sophisticated.

However I just noticed the “Number Rating” type of poll. Is that new? Not sure how it works.
