For anyone using version 3.0 and up. To switch between objects in sculpt mode, the new shortcut is “alt + q.” When applied, the newly selected object will blink once. Also if you need to remesh an object often, check mark the box that says volume. This way you will not need to readjust the mesh to the reference image every time (like I was). I hope this helps.
