I started off using the brush and painting out a cartoon-ish fire:
Then I added a glowing effect with some embers:
I don’t think this looks very good though so since I am using a stylised shape I thought I should make the colours flat:
This time the glow and the embers are the same colours as before but their layers are semi-transparent:
I still didn’t really like how this turned out so I looked online for some “inspiration” and tried to make my own rendition of something I saw:
Here’s the same image as above but with a transparent background:
edit: Here is a gif showing the different layers at 128x128:
edit again: Instead of going from brushed to flat I went from the pixel art as a reference using the airbrush tool:
A fairly fun but difficult challenge!
Got a decent “texture” in this one, shape is suboptimal
Really like the shape on this one, used a reference
Tried making one with slightly bluish core
And finally one looking more like an explosion
PS: Will definitely revisit this challenge later
Flames flames… fireball!
The base:
Variations:
A fire w/sparks, a fire tornado, a flame, and a fire ball.
My Fire images.
Lots of really hot (and excellent) looking fire here! Here’s mine. The same campfire base but at different stages of fleme-y-ness. Used mostly paintbrush with varying degrees of opacity.
Simple campfire
Getting a bit hotter and throwing sparks
Smoking
And finally developing a nice bed of embers before dying down
My 4 flames:
Thought these turned out pretty good!
torch
meteor
campfire
Here’s my fire. Wasn’t sure what to do for the fourth one so I went with a candle.
Went for the 10-15min per images challenge, try fast, fail fast!
Still a lot to learn then
I tried to go with the colour pallet I had created in the lecture before. A pallet without red or yellow because I used a peacock for inspiration. With what I had, I thought I’d try for a gas flame because that actually works with my shades of blue.
Here’s the pallet, so you know what I mean.
Different color fire
i think these fire sucks .d but they’re mine so i embrace them .d.d
Here’s some Fire with a UI Border, not sure if I will stick to the UI colors, I have multiple templates atm.
Didn’t want to spend too long on this but was fun and I couldn’t resist lol, This was honestly my first thought when we were told to make fire.
I stuck to my specifications but for the chrome shading XD
Wow, this assignment was not an easy one. I had decided to challenge myself by mainly using a three pixel diagonal brush… The fire kept turning out a lot more angular and darker in the zoomed-out preview image than I expected compared to the zoomed-in resolution I was working in.
This would be a great assignment for me to revisit with different restrictions and tools.
