No Suggestions when typing code

Hi, I don’t know if this is the right place to ask this but just thought to try. So far in Visual Studio Code when I am typing things out, there are no suggestions that pop up that I am able to click on. So unlike in the videos, I can’t just click on a suggested option I have to type everything out word for word. Is there something I am supposed to download alongside VS Code?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I just didn’t see any answers that solved my issue. Thanks!

Hi Skylar,

Welcome to our community!

Please follow the instruction on this website and make sure all required extensions are installed:

If the issue persists, please check the console of VS Code (not Unity!). If the .NET Framework 4.7.1 (Developer Pack) is mentioned there, download and install it from the official Microsoft website. Here is the link:

Did this help?

Please Help

Hi Miisykos,

For some students, VS Code simply does not work well. Maybe due to a problem with Unity, some update or whatever. Install and use Visual Studio (Community Edition).

  1. Download VS and follow this instruction.
  2. Select VS as your External Script Editor in Unity (Edit > Preferences > External Tools).
  3. Install the “Visual Studio Editor” package in the Package Manager.

That should work.
