Project Toon and Momentous JAM!

Hi, my name is Leo and I’ve been learning how to develop computer games for a while now. I’ve been following many instructional videos from Udemy and YouTube, but still feel pretty aimless. I’ve almost completed the 2D Unity course and have made headway on my own personal project.

I was wondering if I could get a coach to help me through my first personal game. Not necessarily someone who tells me what to do, but someone who I could report my work to weekly and get critique and suggestions. I want to turn my hobby into my career.

Thanks,
Leo

I’m going through a somewhat similar situation, I’m having a lot of issues trying to get my game out there, and even tho I think I’ve been doing great the last few days, I think a little extra help is more than welcomed.

I propose this, let’s coach each other, check my game every week, and I’ll check yours, let’s give feedback and just keep checking on each other. What do you think?

That’s a great idea, I would love to give it a try!

Thanks!

We could even start some sort of group for those that want feedback and tips!

I’m with @HeathClose ,

I’d love to see what you both create and also provide encouragement.

Cheers,
Todd

Thanks, I really appreciate what you guys are doing

Initial update:
After connecting with @Yee it was clear we could learn a lot from each other. The immediate task this week is to reorganize. This will involve breaking my script down into namespaces, which is probably easier than I’m imagining, and setting up Scriptable Objects to hold my character info.

I’ve submitted my first Dev Log on itch.io which can be found here: https://coach-butters.itch.io/mecha-crusades/devlog/152023/initiating-sequence

We plan on submitting every Friday here.
Suddenly this journey seems a lot more real.
Thanks everyone.

Your “here” link isn’t working O_O

@Coach_Butters we are all here for you! Consistency is very important. Don’t feel pressured to do anything grand each month just focus on improving a little bit each week. I’m going to check out what you posted on itch.io and give you feedback. Keep it up man! :+1:

@Yee I love the idea of creating a group where we help others. My goal is to help as many people as I can to continue with their dreams. I know how hard it can get and how many times we are faced with the horrific question, “Should I give up?” Alone it maybe seem impossible but together we can achieve the impossible :facepunch:

Hello guys! Here’s my project:

And here’s my first devlog. I talk about camera systems and how I achieved the desired effect for this super early build, hope you guys check it out.

Week 2 is here, and organization is OP. After implementing namespaces and a scriptable object, the project is 100% more clear. I’ve arrived at the gameplay theme of momentum. The game, “Momentous” is purely movement right now, but it’s worth a look-see. You can find the game here:

and the DevLog here

Next week will be about implementing attacks so that I can actually test what an advantage state would look like.

Hello there!
Updated game and new devlog.

In the log I talk about rotation, but be sure to check the game first, then it’ll all make a little more sense, I also know there’s a small issue with the camera and one of the platforms, I’ll look into it.

I enjoyed your humor with the camera introduction. I surly don’t want to face endless humiliation! xD

I love how you write! Your voice is strong in your writing. I love how entertaining you make this dev log.

Lerp!! The way you explained lerp was amazing! It’s in your own words and easy to follow. I really enjoyed this dev log! I can’t wait to read the next one!

I love how this dev log was all about clarity! It takes a lot of time but it is so worth it. In the long run it’s so important to keep everything in order. If it is not in order then it will only get worse, down the road, and you will have a hard time understanding how everything works. Your end quote needs to be printed on T-Shirts! I love it!

Clarity is powerful. Strive for it.

Great work man!

This week I found an aesthetic theme to work towards. Check how I found it here: Devlog

As more elements get added to the game, more problems start to arise. So far, I’ve prepared for these problems by making my code flexible, but I know I’m venturing into rough terrain. Next week will be about working on my own sprites now that I know how to animate with them and I have a theme.
