Project Toon and Momentous JAM!

Hey
Wow this is really great. I thought often, should I give up? For first, I wanted to learn because it´s interesting for me, now I see, Developer Community seems more Community as gamer communities

I have to say, I didn´t recognise this thread, because i didn´t thought that I could teach someone. Maybe we should open a new thread and Ask Nina or someone from the staff to pin it up, that everyone can see it. Let´s post our Games and Game Logs there. Maybe we all could make a game together. Unity supports only a small team of 3 users fpr free, but Github should be very usefull for this, or not?

I’m curious to see what comes

Don’t know about the pin part, we could ask.
A separate thread from this could be really useful too!

So lets do it
@Nina it´s possible to get an Thread and get it pinned? An Thread for pinning up our Games and Game Logs. This threadtitle is still confusing.

Maybe we should make a new thread and forget about the pin?

This Idea about opening a new thread did i get Late in the night too. There is No matching topic for this. I try to get one on discord

We have a dedicated subforum where you could post your games and your progress:
https://community.gamedev.tv/c/unity/showcase/18

Is that what you are looking for?

The “Talk” subforum is mainly for discussing topics.

Hello everyone! I just updated Project “Toon”.
This time is a HUGE update!
Talking NPCs, a quest, the layout for the first part of town and more! Please take a look! Ignore the timer, it’s just there for debugging purposes xD

This week I put my artist cap on and delved into the land of color theory and digital art tutorials. Check out my new character and log here: DevLog
He’s straight jamming.
Next week I will attempt to fix the wonky hitboxes as well as some other stuff.
If anybody knows why the hitboxes launch at different angles depending on how close the opponent is to you, let me know. It’s not intended.

This week was a doozy, but it’s done. All is explained here: https://coach-butters.itch.io/momentous/devlog/159380/slaying-the-doubt-demons
I focused mainly on QOL improvements, but laid the groundwork for some great stuff that will be completed next week. I set my mid-term deadline (fully playable game) as July 20. I’m excited to see how much I can get done by then.

This week I took on Unity’s new input system. With it implemented I am finially able to develop the AI script so you have something to fight against. Next week will be all about AI development.

One week until playable release! This week I realized I had been designing Momentous as if it were a single player game. To remedy that feeling, I worked to create a believable AI opponent. There are plenty of improvements to look at in this version. Let me know what you think of the sound effects. I’m worried they might get annoying.

Welp, it’s “finished!” Today was my deadline and I’m incredibly proud of what I accomplished. I’ve learned so much from this project and met two cool people along the way. I do intend to update the game later, but now I must get ready for school and want to spend a lot of time learning Procedural Generation.

Thanks all!

Congratulations on your amazing game! Sorry I wasn’t able to be there as much as I would like for the past two weeks, but I truly enjoyed your game and all your blogs. Wish the best in your future projects!

Try that at parties to surprise your friends.

@ Yee you are too funny

Rotation after rotation after rotation. Be careful or you will be sent to limbo where you will rotate for eternity.

For a complicated topic you really nailed it on the head! Also your problems seemed very complicated but in reality if you take a step back you will realize the solution may pop out to you and seem, like you said, “a pretty absurd solution for something so complex.”

I really love reading your dev logs! You are a very clever writer!

PS. Don’t know why this was sent now and not earlier :man_facepalming:

How is everything?

Awesome work!! I’m going to check it out tonight!

Pretty bad and good, I’m on a pretty weird spot.

A lot of things occurred in the last 3 weeks:

  • I had to change my computer to a worse one. I can’t use blender as smoothly as before and before wasn’t smooth at all, so this is gonna be a little harder than expected.
  • I lost EVERYTHING! I had everything on Google Drive but it updated when it shouldn’t have and it erased all my files… Thanks google!
  • I had some health issues, I took some blood tests this past Thursday (July 23th), and between high stress levels and colesterol in the border of the acceptable I was feeling dizzy and having headaches due to high blood pressure, I started feeling better around this past Monday, this is also why I stopped doing the Game Design course.
  • Todoist failed me too! Yay technology!

Those were the “bad” news, now onto the good news:

  • I’m wasn’t sure what my next step should be, so I entered thinking/drawing mode which is a great mode for me, it puts everything into perspective.
  • I came up with a plan, my own plan, not something I copied from Skillshare or any other site or youtuber, I’m feeling way more comfortable now since it doesn’t relies at all on technology and it adapts a lot better to my needs, like being random but structured at the same time (If you want details on that I’ll send them to you via PM or create a topic, whichever you prefer).
  • I’ve been learning a lot; AI, Shaders, Game Design and more.

The exciting stuff:
I’m taking things slower… WOW dude! Calm now with that excitement!
I’m going to do what I should have done right from the start, which is work on 3 projects and on 4 courses at the same time… … … … How exactly is that taking things slower? Pretty good question but it’s pretty hard to answer, let’s just say it involves my organizational plan and knowing that my brain can’t handle one project for long periods of time, I also get far more creative when working on multiple things, don’t know why, that’s just how my brain works, so I’ll use that to my advantage.

  • My current courses: Shader, Math, Game Design, and a Drawing course that starts this August, this is quite weird because it’s a 14 month program, but I’m in desperate need of this particular course, and the teacher is freaking amazing.
  • Project Toon which has priority, meaning I’ll work on it 3 times a week, a Beat-em-Up game designed to practice my 2D animations skills which are kinda crappy (I’ll work on this only one time a week), and last but not least, I’m going to redo the 3D Course, I’m going to make a game from each project, not just a small game, a full fledged game, since the code is already there, I can follow along and just focus on Game Design and launching the games, something I’ve never done outside of very small projects, this involves making trailers and other stuff, which I’ve never done. This two projects are support projects that are going to hone my skills to make Project Toon the best game I can possible make.

Did you expect such a long answer? Because I didn’t
