Yoann from Oslo, Norway here, 36 year old.
I have an education in 3D animation, and i went through all the process of creating animated movies: writing, concept art, rigging, animation, final cut, all the jazz. I then took a one year specialization in game assets creation.
That was 10 years ago.
Feeling that i had not really much to say, i spent the last decade learning about all kinds of things: philosophy, psychology, politics and economics, but also quantum theory basics, astrophysics, sociology, you name it. I just have a sick curiosity for everything, which pushes me to read/watch material 6 hours a day or more.
And then 1+ year ago i fell into the spell of game development, because i believe interactivity and games to be one of the greatest way to reach to people. Not only to tell them things, but to experience things they would not experience otherwise.
Anyway, my goal with the course is to stop sucking at coding, and learn more patterns and case studies which will allow me to fly by my own wings. I went through the first udemy course with Ben and Brice, and i can say i am starting to get an “ok overview” of the process now.
I am still baffled by some fundamental programing concepts though. I have started to read game programing patterns, and was stucked on the second chapter already. I believe i still need to see more case studies that will allow me to understand these key concepts.
If i were to compare to learning a language, i would say i know a limited vocabulary, i can make a few basic sentences, but i need to know more ways to make sentences through learning the logic of it, and be able to “write without thinking much”. Maybe even make poetry one day ^^.
Here is a lame old page i did with some illustrations in case anyone is interested: http://gynko-art.deviantart.com/gallery/
