How is Rick moving around the palette?

In the lecture Rick appears to be able to move the view of the palette (for example when he is trying to find space to bring in the new sprites). I can zoom in and out but I cannot move the view to place tiles on the right hand side, for example. In the scene view we press the ‘hand’ icon - but what is the equivalent here?

Update - found the answer: hold the alt key down and click and drag.
