I really believe some really good bunny scenes will come up with 2.8!
People will have more time to tweak the hair particles and material without having to wait minutes to render…

Important thing! When you are in Particle Edit mode you need to ENABLE THE OVERLAYS! Otherwise the splines to edit will not be visible!

Yeah… there are some problems, adaptations needed.
Like, I tried to load my old bunny scene when I was trying this one and could not make it look good using the same HDRI and light sources.
Looks like what makes the hair look good in eevee is heavily bound to the lighting.
Also about your Gnome problem.
Try changing this from Strand to Strip.
I finally found that option, by accident.
I am working on a small movie, completely done in Eevee. But I have / had a lot of issues.
Like your rabbit (Cycles project) to Eevee. I encounter similar problems.
But that’s the learning curve.
