Movie asset - WIP - Blunderbuss and Gnome

I’m working on a new movie. Needed a new asset. Only the front part will be visible in my script.

I decided to make a video presentation. To try out the wire-frame modifier. Every time, try to learn something new. Have fun, go render something.

I got these “Mug shots” accidentally by miss managing mesh data.
Due to new UI Blender 2.82.7 for subdivision.

Nice job on the Blunderbuss. I’ve only ever seen a 3D version once before years ago.

Oh, and the “Mug Shots” are cute.

Anyone more info on hair particles Eevee vs Cycles.
In Eevee thick hair strands compared to Cycles with the same settings.

Oh looks like Evee has problems with hairs then. Though if it is consistent it just becomes the style. If looking to animate the time savings can push the direction somewhat.

unknown territory then …
I find hair difficult (also performance wise).
So I thought to start with Eevee, but even with a tutorial I understand less.
Then I thought about to test render in Cycles. Voila …
… when does the learning stops …

Made an animation test to see how the beard (hair), would work in Eevee.
It’s my first try and I’m not so positive about the ‘hair’ outcome.
Not sure if I’m going to use hair …

It is not going to be realistic, so its fine, the hair moves with the movement of lips etc. Then an animation cant be examined like a still. Just comes down to whether you like it in action really. If it fits with the overall style. How close up it will be in the end product.

Hahahaha looks like they stand behind a jet taking off. Looks hilarious.

Because I wanted to have a grey beard. With a a lot of grey varied (light / dark) hairs, the Moiré pattern became active.
I made a new animation render. Just used a single color for the hair and my “hair noise” problem went away.

It immediately put a smile on my face, so I’m really liking it.

Can’t wait to get into animation myself. It’s what i’m really looking forward to.

I finally solve my hair render problems in Eevee!
And of course Eevee has his own set of hair properties.
Accidentally I found it.

Looking good FedPete. It looks like you’ve got it just right.

Improving some basic expression, using shape keys.
Added a eye tracking bone structure (nearly forgot how to do this).
I had an idea to add some glasses. But I have already some performance issues.
I keep that idea for an other project. Next step Integrate the face into the movie scene
and animate.

As always, have fun.
