This is the Blender Collaboration 2024, week 38 challenge. Don’t be afraid to join, a lot of us are beginners. This is all to practice, have fun, learn, and get together.
This week’s subject is “Things you see in Autumn”.
’ Things you see in Autumn ’ - It depends on where you live, but there are many things that can tell you it’s autumn around you, from yellow leaves to warm chocolate, mushrooms, snails, chestnuts, umbrellas, school bags, rain boots, or many other things. Just choose a specific item that you easily relate to that season, show it in any style, and feel free to tell about it.
The rules are simple. 1 subject, 1 entry, 1 week.
You create whatever object or scene or whatever you can think of that has something to do with the subject. It can be as simple or complicated as you want, all entries are welcome!
Post your picture here in this thread. At the end of the week, we start to vote. And if you are the winner, you may choose the next subject and win a unique badge.
Either works. It can be helpful to get feedback at intermediate stages, but oftentimes people just post the final image. Whatever you decide, the last image you post will be entered, unless you specify otherwise.
This was an idea from a photo project I did years ago, with images you only can take in autumn here (not so much water in other seasons).
I am glad I managed to model the little snail, but textures are all another story . Let’s see what I can do… I have something that makes the snail surfaces appear as if they were dirty, no matter what I do (then the shell needs something too, but let’s deal with an issue at a time)
NOTE: I discovered what happened to the textures. I was using mainly illumination from images, which is a diffuse illumination. The fact that there was a very intense side was misleading because it created a nice light to highlight the snail’s shell, but there was no actual directional light (or the one I had was negligible). Therefore, the reflections on most objects were diffuse too, and this, with the small bumps on the snail, gave an unexpected behaviour. All in all, as an old developer I knew always said, “computers always do what you tell them to do, not what you want them to do”.
We @BlenderCollab have a few days to vote. You can vote fast but also think slowly about design, colors, technique, difficulty, subject, realism, etc. Choose consciously and not on your entry.
The new subject week 39 “Parade floats” has already started. The winner of this week’s “Things you see in autumn” challenge may select a subject for next week 40 and win a badge.
@Megane_Wang congratulations on your submission of the collab topic “Things you see in Autumn”. The illustration represents the topic well.
Joey_Cuevas - Interesting to see how cultural influences play a role in how people experience certain things during seasonal changes. The lighting could have been a bit more exciting.
xealstrag - Great pumpkin style. The animation doesn’t add more to it, like your previous swinging dragon.
CptMirana - Good model, but it’s too dark to see al the details.
Note: I don’t want to offend anyone. I try to write down positive ideas and visions in my simple use of the English language. I am also sometimes more inspired by a particular subject or solution. I’m also learning from you!
