Ok, clickbait headline!
Bit late noticing it.
They have been sold, bought out by Maxon.
Not a good outlook for it if fears are to be believed in this thread.
More people will be moving to Blender!

Here is the first bad sign as a result of that, they are discontinuing free upgrades to owners of ZBrush unless its a subscription
ZBrush Perpetual Customers WIll No Longer Get Free Upgrades (80.lv)
I donāt think this personally makes a huge difference to me as most updates were features I didnāt care about much. But in principle itās pretty annoying.
Seems the speculation was right then. The attitude of Maxon.
Yes it will kill it over time. Hide it away in their pro eco system.
Personally I made a point of not ever looking at it. Open source or similar like game engines are free unless you make a lot of money from using them, is the only future.
OHH not happy.
It is a bummer
Having used both ZBrush and Blender just for sculpting now I can say ZBrush deserves its spot as the industry standard. But Blender seems to be on the rise and Iām really enjoying it.
Itās kinda sad, but I for one welcome our new Blender overlords.
In all seriousness, Blender deserves to be the industry leader, it has tools that not even the most expensive 3D packages have, made by 24 guys or so, and itās free, no one will be able to compete against that in the long run.
Facts
I tried ZBrush years ago, and the only thing I found absolutely wonderful, was the ZRemesher, because Blender 2.79 and earlier versions were really horrid at remeshing, and I wasnāt able to figure out how to do it manually.
That said, I havenāt tried it in Blender 2.93 . . . yet, so hopefully Iāll start liking it in Blender, and then wonāt miss ZBrush at all, because I never really got into sculpting.
Exactly. Long term they are in a dying model. Perhaps as they run out of steam some might go the game engine way, free to all but if you make money from using it, then only, do you pay them something.
