I have my sandbox moment created. I took the design idea from the lesson and built more ontop but I feel I may have added to much for just a single moment. But at the same time I am struggling to think of what to remove and what to keep.
My current moment build in the sandbox is the player in his own home area with a fence that has the weapons he can pick from. I have a cinematic cutscene to look at the start of the two different areas with enemies in both. I was thinking of having one of the be filed with non-hostile NPCs. But I am struggling to see if I am adding to much at once or I have enough but need to think things through more on how I can still make the moment idea work.
From what you see in the image here would you say this looks closer to the building a full level rather than a single moment?
So the player has their own home in the bottom right. Two little town areas I want one to be hostile and one friendly and one not always in some way. Then at the top left there is a big guard blocking your way to go to the next scene.
The scene size is the same as the lesson, a terrain of size 100 by 100.
I like the starting town, not super big either so it could even have the story of a small group of settlers just starting out to live their new lives. At least that is what I think of off the top of my head. With the position of the houses and all the boxes. It looks really good.
Update: I have changed the house models
Here is what I came up with:
- One sentence:
The player reaches an encampment, where prisoners are being tortured, the player frees the prisoners to have them join their party. - Where:

My First Moment
1. One sentence overview of the moment.
The player reaches a small village and has to protect their villagers from the bandits. Or should the player support the bandits instead? It’s up to you!
2. Where is the moment taking place?
Somewhere in the forests of „Cthalha“ where the forest elves are living in.
3. What is the player trying to do?
The player choses a side. He lives with the consequences.
4. What is one meaningful choice you can give the player?
Clashing all the bandits in one brutal and very risky fight, or cover the outrages of the bandits and leave the village without a fight.
5. (Bonus Question) Why should the player choose one of the options?
The player protects the villagers for honor and glory. It’s reputation will increase dramatically. Or the player will choose the path of the villain and looses a huge amount of reputation for more wealth.
I think the last question is very important to know. That’s why I decided to expand your exercise, Rick. Thank you guys for this “Tutorial” you are awesome!

I precise I don’t spend too much time in the terrain and asset part in my course.
I only copy Rick design because I’ve already a protoype scene but a little bit more realistic:
My first minutes will be something like that.
The main hero, a survivor a little bit dumb living on a rocky plateau overlooking cliffs with the only entrance being a barricaded rope bridge.
At the start of the game, his wife ask him to go to the survivor’s camp few kilometers far away to buy some goods.
Arriving to the camp, he directly goes to the inn and spend money drinking some beers.
Realizing that he will be in trouble if he returns without the food, he decide to make money completing some quest for villagers.
Cut some wood, wash the inn kitchen, kill and dismenber a Gecko etc…
But when it will have finish and buy the stuff, he will hear a big noise of explosion and gun figh coming from his camp.
Arriving here he will find his wife, heavily wounded and dying. just time for her to describes the raider who have captured their daughter.
They live in a caravan which will have this look :
(made with Dall E with a prompt)
The daughter character design alos made with Dall E:
So it will spend some time to show my own stuff, but patient.
And thanks a lot to Rick and Ben (Or Ben & Rick ? )for your really cool stuff in these courses.
I’m able too understand and tweak for you learn me and it’s really Clear and efficient.
See you soon.
