What is the point for this? It works fine without doing this. Also how does it enable us to start the game with controller?

I noticed that as well. I added it just in case there was a future lesson that need those nodes.
I did not understand either. but i think the point was to make the start button highlighted at the start of the menu screen, meaning everything you do will trigger it. for instance, a press of a controller button. what I failed to understand is how in the world the button even received the input from the controller buttons.
I believe the point is that by putting the game into a UI only mode, all focus is on the UI, and the button is the only variable widget, so it gets focus by default (just a guess)
