Why would triangles be evil?

Hi! I was just wondering why Michael was saying that some people say that “Triangles are bad” at the beginning of the lecture. When it comes down to rendering meshes, any geometry is translated into triangles in the end, and so I’m just wondering why they would ever be considered bad in your geometry?

Is it because it can create problems with cut and loop tools in blender?

Thanks!

Hi

Triangles are not as bad as people make out in a rendering sense.
They are terrible when modelling in blender as most of the operations we use like loop cuts rely on working with quads so whilst modelling to save our sanity we keep to the quads.
When you export to a game engine however the game engine actually converts the quads into triangles any way so a few triangles is not too bad.

So you assessment is quite correct well done
