## "Regular" variables (not pointers)

To understand a pointer, let's review "regular" variables first. If you're familiar with a programming language without pointers like JavaScript, this is what you think when you hear "variable".

I found this helpful as to “why” to use the Asterisk and the purpose of it. About half way down he goes into a simple explanation as to why pointers are used.
It was easier to understand for me anyway.
