Why not us delta?

Why do we not factor the delta into the multiplicaiton to make our movement framerate-independent?

It’s because move_and_slide() already factors in delta internally. I’ve added a docs link in case you want to see more about it, because the help file for this function doesn’t actually mention this anywhere.
