Besides the fact the the Blender is AWSOME!!! I was wondering what other courses people can recommend for a wanna be indie game developer like my self
Currently taking
Learn 3D Modelling - The Complete Blender Creator Course
Continue to Lecture 1
"Unreal Engine 4: The Complete Beginner’s Course
2D Game Art for Non-Artists
They are all pretty good course so far but I think the Unreal one is a bit behind on revision’s.
I have a Gimp Beginner’s course scheduled and the Creating Environments in Blender but won’t start those till after I finish Learning 3D Modeling-The Complete Blender Creator Course.
I am not really sure about taking the Unity or Unreal courses since I am not really interested in making games per se. I am more interested in creating assets others can use for such things so I would like to find something geared towards asset creation.
Pick up these from Udemy:
“Make a low poly scene in Blender and Unity in 30 minutes”
“Create your own character in Blender”
These are free and short, you could knock them both out in an afternoon, and they’re really help. I have the other courses you mentioned too.
…All the other Udemy courses I have are all Python courses I’ve never even looked at lol.
But considering I’ve been working at Blender for a while, I have a few suggestions for how to further your Blender abilities!
Watch Youtube Tutorials for specific things: Like ‘how to make a dog’ or ‘how to make a cloth’, and then try it your own way! If your implementation doesn’t work, watch it again, or find another tutorial, and try again until your method is foolproof! Watch time-lapses and speed modelling: You would be surprised how helpful non-tutorial building videos are. You can pick up a lot of methods and techniques from these despite not being verbally told by the creator. Give one a try:
Browse Sketchfab and use the wireframe viewer:https://sketchfab.com/ is amazing. Not only is it a good tool for inspiration, but it’s a good source of checking out the topology that the pro’s use. If you press 5 on the keyboard, you can see the wireframe outline showing all the faces and edges. Here; check out the wireframe of one of my models by pressing 5. https://sketchfab.com/models/562ae3505b104d078bb0ea7e1dba8e46
(You may need to actually view it on Sketchfab, not sure if it works in embeds)
Realize I got a bit off topic, but these steps will seriously help you with 3D and blender specifically when you’re done with the courses. There really is infinite learning out there
Mcfuzz thanks for posting these! Doing the character creation one now…its really good and shows you exactly how to build figures…great! awesome of you to post these for us, thanks mate!
@McFuzz , I do recomend taking one of those python courses, python is a very easy language compared to C/C#, etc , but its powerful enough that its become very popular with IT folks as pretty much the standard go-to scripting language. As a bonus, you can script up Blender with it (I believe the good folks who produced this course also do a python for blender course)
Myself, I’m also doing the UE4/C++ course (I know a bit of C++ already, but its good to go back to the basics and dust up all those missing bits of knowledge you miss ‘learning on the job’). I’ve also got a course lined up on 3D-coat (A texture painting/PBR/sculpting software thats nice and cheap and adds a nice polish stage into the blender->UE4 asset pipeline.
It really depends on what kind of video game you want to make. Do you want to make a low poly video game or something that looks more photo-realistic or possibly a cartoon styled video game? As for the 3D modeling side of things, if you want to learn it I can give some suggestions.
First I’d recommend getting familiar with blender through Ben and Michael’s course. Once you’re familiar with blender, it really opens up all the different sources of learning from youtube to udemy because some people on youtube teach blender thinking that you already have the very basics of navigating it down.
The first guy on youtube after you get comfortable that I’d recommend is blender guru. He has tons of things like tips on photorealistic texturing, to making a railway tunnel or even doing volumetric clouds in the sky.

Hi Guys
I can make just about any model but i have always struggled with texturing and uvunwrapping of complex objects…so frustrating to be able to build any model but cant ever finish it up properly !! The Blender course we have all done or are doing is simply brilliant but because its such an extensive course covering so much Michael did not have all that much time to cover unwrapping in extensive detail…I am at the point where i need to learn much more on the subject So i went onto Udemy and found this course on Uvunwrapping …i am half way through but have learned a ton already and have found it to be a big help …so yeah anyone struggling with Uvunwrapping or just wants a good go over of the topic should give it a look, it may help
