Hello again,
My name is Steven, I also posted in the first DISCUSSION post at the beginning of the course, but thought I would stop by and say hello again :D. I am a recent student of Full Sail University, which I had to leave during my final year, as I was having some issues with paying for the final year. As such, I am looking to broaden my knowledge and get things going again. I have always wanted to build upon my knowledge and learn more C++, as I mostly did work in C#. I also have experience in Unity 3D and 2D and have created a few games there, but with Unreal, I feel I will have a much more ample set of skills, as more companies use Unreal (AAA) and knowing more than one Middleware Engine will help me advance my Career
Hi Everyone,
My name is Mike Morris and I’m from Pennsylvania. The last time I played around with the Unreal Editor was 12 years ago in a game design class. I attended both Collins College and UAT in the Phoenix, AZ area back then. I lost my funding in my final year, but maintained contact with old professors who have pushed for me to refocus into getting back into this field. I had gotten close to releasing a game in the X-Box Live Indie market with a programming partner, but fell short due to a bug in the code. My strength was always project development and graphic design.
When I saw this course available I jumped on it. I need to get more familiar and comfortable with coding so that I can sure up my weakness. I also have a fledgling game dev minor program being ran in my area that’s currently focusing on Unreal as it’s platform. With the knowledge and experience this course will provide me I’ll finally be able to be a published developer.
Looking forward to it.
Hello!
I’m Dallas Wilke, from Florida. I’ve always been interested in this type of stuff and just finally decided to do something about it. I’ve been studying with a few books on C++ for a while now, but I’ve struggled without a support group of fellow students or teachers.
I teach High School math and music at a Private Christian School and I am the Music Pastor at First Baptist Church of Hastings, Florida. I love math, love music, and love video games.
I’ve gotten decently far in some of my coding projects, so I have a familiarization with C++ but not with Unreal. I’m very excited about this, and can’t wait to be making some games for real.
My goal is to be able to have some marketable skills and maybe meet someone to team up with and produce some indy projects.
Hello everyone,
I’m Paul from England and have just finished a degree in history with the open university. I thought it was time for me to broaden my horizons a little and having previously messed about with various iterations of unreal ed in the past, as well as tried to learn to code, I thought I would take the plunge and do something a bit more structured, hence me signing up for this course. I am severely disabled mobility wise and spend a lot of time on my computer, I used to play a lot of games but as I get older I find I am more interested in the technical aspects
Hi, I’m Christel. I introduced myself with the first lesson, but I’ll do it again here. I’m a Californian currently residing in Santa Rosa about an hour North of San Francisco. I got my degree in Computer Science from University of California, San Diego all the way back in 1986. I did game programming on and off in my youth, but gave up on it when I hit 30 due to inability to find another job doing that. Now all these years later I want to learn indie game development as a retirement hobby.
I’ve been debating back and forth between learning Unity and Unreal, but I chose Unreal because I like the results better, and I thought it might be more Mac friendly, since I read that Unity uses Monogame Studio for macOS development, which I had a horrible experience with in a previous XNA/Monogame class that drove me to work on my old PC. However, even just with the one lesson on setting up an Unreal project, I already ran into a Mac specific bug, so we’ll see how things go.
Hi.
I’m Lukas and i’m from Poland. I’m working with Unity. I had C++ at University but i want ot learn how to make games with c++ in Unreal Engine to change job with this medium. So once again Hello
Hi! My name is Ross LeMere and I was born and raised in North Carolina in the United States. After getting my first taste of the Video Game Industry with a Contract QA position I felt it was time to take things to the next level and learn how to code!
Hi!
I’m Tom from Ohio. I’ve been working as an industrial designer for about 15 years doing SolidWorks, 3DsMax, Cinema4D, V-Ray - mostly designing, modeling, texturing and some animation work. I’m a long time gamer and have been taking the Unity Developers course from Ben for a while now (it’s awesome!). Just starting the “Zombie Runner” game but I have a big interest in Unreal so I figure it’s time to jump into it. Learning to code is my biggest hurdle so wish me luck!
I read an article that I will go look for again or that you can search for on using eclipse IDE for UDK4. Do a search for that and see what comes up.
Hi all,
My name is Rafael Cortes, but online I go by Dippy Magoo in gaming. I was a web developer since 2003, a soldier in the Army till 2006, and an I.T. Specialist till 2015. I have always been into programming but that was with scripting languages like JavaScript and PHP. I do know Java programming at an intermediate level but have always wanted to learn C/C++. I don’t want to make just games, I want to make games that are dynamic and behave more like a social network then anything else. Mostly I want to be an indie game developer but if I can make a career in game development that would be a bonus.
Currently living in Martin County Florida, so if there is anyone near me. I encourage that you reach out to me if you are on the same timezone as I am on usually during the day working on the course. Can’t wait to get to work with you all and make new friends that have a passion to learn how to code that I have.
Be safe and be blessed.
Your difficulty to code will come from the fact that you are a creative thinker. At least that is what I have learn from my own experience in coding. When I started learning Java code I had a hard time figuring out how to even start a project from scratch. What I found since I love to draw was this. I draw maps of what it is that I am trying to code with pictures. It’s another approach to pseudo code but with drawings. Once you can translate you drawing to actual pseudo code, again my opinion, you can convert your pseudo code to real code. This technique is what I use to code with when I can’t figure something out or start some new code.
Hope that this can take your creative side into the world of code like it has done for me.
Hey all! I’m Mike from Wisconsin. I’ve been a gamer since the TRS-80, and have always had game ideas floating around in my head. I have been tinkering with the Unreal Engine since the original UT. A few months back I found the youtube videos from Epic done by Zak Parrish, and have been excited about learning the Unreal Engine ever since. I have always been very anti-social, but I REALLY want to take this course seriously, and if Ben says I should communicate, I’m going to try!
Hi everyone,
I am a just a nerd that likes learning. I find programming very interesting and want to do something real with it. I think that a Moba would be fun to create.
Hi! My name is Gabriel Chauriye from Santiago, Chile. I’m former music composer but I always love games. One day I want to compose music for a game just for fun and start an investigation of Game Engines, Game Developments, Game Design, etc. Now I’m totally in love with this new world and I’m still composing and producing music (For living and of course, because I love the music too). I’m on the Unity C# course from Ben too, so I expect learning more and more and have the tools to make games reality.
Regards!
Hello, My name is Alexandre Desrivieres. I’m a jazz musician from New Jersey. I love playing games and writing music and stories as if they were going to integrated into games. I’m looking to further my understanding of game development and perhaps even make an indie game. Who knows? When I was in elementary school (like 2004) I made a Galaga clone but have fallen off the programming bandwagon since then. I hope to learn enough to begin moving in the right direction in the development cycle and meet cool people along the way. I’m also taking the Unity course.
Hi I’m Kevin! I’ve been a web developer for 10 years and I’ve tinkered with HTML5 game development frameworks and Unity, but not I’m interested in trying out C++ and the Unreal Engine.
Hello! I’m Pola, 26. I live in England, between the New Forest and Southampton. I’m not sure if I’m a geek (I was into a lot of computer games as a kid but never bright enough to actually learn how to make my own haha!), but I haven’t done anything interesting since graduating (linguistics) and thought learning to make a game would make for a nice after work hobby. I really struggle with motivation and staying focused so I hope I can reach out to you guys for help if I’m ever stuck (and I’m bound to!). See you around.
Hi everyone! My name is Brandon, and I’m 19 years old currently living in the southern United States. I’m currently studying Software Development in my first year at Uni, and wanted to start with some independent work by taking this course. I have a bit of experience with Java, C++, and Python, and I’ve worked with Unity 5 before; however, I’m looking to expand my understandings of C++ and learn how the Unreal Engine works vs. Unity. I hope to see you all in the Q&A and Discussions pages!
Hi all, Johan here all the way from South Africa. I’m a freelance analyst programmer and just doing this course for fun and to refresh my C++ which I have not used in years or is it decades.
