Hello,
I had a problem in weightpaint-mode. When I tried to select a bone with cmd + LM I could only select planes in the mesh of the body.
Solution: I had still selected the paint mask from the texture painting!

Please give full screenshots with any questions. With the relevant panels open.
This can be done by Blender itself, via the ‘Window’ menu bar top left-hand side.
On that menu dropdown is ‘save screenshot’.
Aso if you are using 4.0 then maybe the UI has been modified, check the Blaender manual.
