Using BSP Question 2 - Vertex Snapping?

Hello all,

Having a hell of a time getting the walls and floor built correctly and lined up. So, I tried vertex snapping because in Unity it make building even complex shapes easy, however looking at Unreal tutorials I can’t get any Vertex snapping to occur at all. One YouTube video I watched even had wrong key presses and was made in 2017, wasted a lot of time with that.

Does anyone know of a YouTube tutorial that is modern and works with 4.27 PROPERLY and with a suitable explanation of what mouse buttons and keys you have to press?

The only other thing I can think of is a Unreal Vertex Snapping tool but with my skill level thus far I don’t think I’d be able to use it - so the cost of the tool might be a waste of money :expressionless:.

What have you tried? Holding V and using the gizmo worked as expected.

Holding the V key doesn’t work at all.

To get the Vertex that I want to move, I have to click and hold the Middle Mouse Button (tricky as it’s a wheel) on the middle of the gizmo then I have to use my left hand to hold Alt+V and hope that the gizmo moves and don’t have series of blue dots appear all over the screen.

Then nothing I tried doing after that worked. You are supposed to Hold the V key and using the left mouse button to snap the vertex into place but that didn’t work. I tried holding the Alt+V with Left Mouse Button - that didn’t work - also had the side effect of making another wall at whatever place it appeared. Tried just using the left mouse button that didn’t work.

What I need to know is how to move the Vertex once I have selected it with the Middle Mouse Button and Alt+V keys. I need the the exact process so I can make some headway.

I think you’re using the wrong mode? You can’t snap vertexes in brush editing mode.

Left Click + Middle Mouse Button moves the pivot point (temporarily) and then vertex snapping by holding V should use that pivot point to vertexes.

I think I have it now:

  • I click on the middle of the Gizmo with the middle mouse button and use Alt+V to select the vertex,
  • and then release the mouse completely,
  • then press the left mouse button with JUST the V key and then move the mouse REALLY QUICKLY to the vertex I want to select on the other object otherwise it will snap to the wrong vertex!!!

Now all I have to do is:

  1. fix all my vertices up to stop the light bleeding through the walls and floor,
  2. copy it to a USB,
  3. take it to another slower computer, build the lighting properly this time,
  4. then copy it back to the USB
  5. and bring it back to my computer to marvel at all the lighting glory, until I lose it again

It’s, sooo easy now thanks for pointing it out, well, providing I move the mouse fast enough.

Regards.
