Update to Hardware

I was starting the course and found that the Section 1 Lecture 4 - Top 5 VR Platforms Compared lecture is slightly out of date.

Oculus does have native room scale with just one sensor. It is nowhere near as large as the HTC Vive but that is going to improve soon.

Oculus Touch controllers (while not yet shipped) will come with another sensor to track the controllers and improve tracking of the headset as well as improve the size of the native room scale but you can also buy an additional sensor (available now and bringing the total count to 3) to achieve room scale similar to the HTC Vive (based on Oculus’ information).

So while it is a little premature, I think it is a noteworthy update to the video that room scale and controllers are available on both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift so students can work on developing similar content on either platform.

I personally have a Oculus Rift CV1, Gear VR and Cardboard so I’m definitely excited to dust these off and wet my feet in making VR applications.

I have Google Cardboard and Playstation VR. I love it so far, but I envy your higher resolution.

I also noticed some out of date information. The Playstation VR isn’t supposed to have a closed development, and Unity supports exporting to PSVR. I’m not sure if I’m not understanding or remembering what I read correctly, though, and now I can’t find that article again.
