Whenever you break down a model and want apply different material to different parts you can easily unwrap surfaces or groups of surfaces separately. That’s how I modeled the whiteboard as one object but seven (7) materials with many different UV-mappings. The three whiteboard pens have a text that I wrote using GIMP and some trivial drawing. Marked one seam on the cylinder in the middle and unwrapped to the image.
