UE5 ugly shadows

I’ve just seen on this video and in my viewport as well, that the shadows looks dithered on the viewport.
IMO it looks uglier than in the UE4 engine. Whats the deal with this? How people are making those awesome looking projects with UE5? Whats the workaround here?

Is with the lighting built? Could you show a screenshot?

Here’s great detail in UE5 documentation about Virtual Shadow Maps that may help explain how shadows can be improved:

no, i havent buildt it, so that must be it.
just it looked less grainy in ue4 , thats why i was confused, why the preview looks worse in ue5.
thanks.

ill look into that, thank you!

Hi,

I assume you mean the black flickering on the surface of the wall when you get close? This is actually caused by the Pixel Depth Offset within the material. Earlier in the project we disabled this in the M_Tiling_Master material, however it is also used in the M_Master material. If you serach for that and unplug the Pixel Depth Offset then the flickering dots will disappear

Hope that helps!
