Tried to make a vampire survivors like game entirely on my own!

Hello! I just played it for a few minutes, I actually might get addicted to this :joy: , the controls are simple and straight to the point and fun! I love the challenge of having to evade the enemies while the gun is reloading!
How long did it take you to come up with this? I love the idea!

This is actually a pretty good start and is quite fun as is. Reminds me a lot of old Flash games.
The next step would be to add more weapons for the player.


There are a few things that could be improved in the current version:
As a quality-of-life change I think reloading should happen automatically once you reach zero ammo, it’s currently a bit of a chore.
It would be nice to get some actual power upgrades in the level-up menu like damage, fire rate, projectile amount and/or size etc. The enemies get tougher and more frequent but the player doesn’t currently get any way to deal with them aside from having to reload less.
I think the background texture could be “flatter” so the enemy sprites are more readable.


I think your game is closer in concept to 20 Minutes Till Dawn in the way it plays, since it gives more agency over the player character, as opposed to Vampire Survivors where all weapons are automatic. It may be worth looking there for some inspiration.


Edit. I was trying to set a highscore but enemies stopped spawning after 10 min :sweat_smile:

Would like a victory screen.
Also, something I noticed on my second session, I don’t think the player’s movement vector is normalized for diagonal movement which results in them walking faster diagonally, or at least it feels that way.

Yes I was thinking of implementing it but i thought that it would make the game too easy.

i didnt do that because i wanted the bullets to have an impact. Kinda like a shotgun. thats why every enemy dies in one hit

Oops. Did the boss not spawn? I’ll look into that. You’re supposed to win after you kill the boss

I used a “Game Idea Generator” and the prompt was “You are the powerhouse” or something like that. So i thought that maybe using health to deal damage would be a great idea in this sense. I took one week to make the game and another one to polish it.

Think i fixed the boss. It was a good ol null reference exception. Unfortunately idk how to playtest late game content so i just gotta trust myself for now
