As suggested I did my work on the shirt before watching the video. Ran into problem when doing the collar. Watched the video and then worked through mine. One concern I have using that method is my normal are now pointing in. Flipping the normals and applying the solidify modifier causes a gap in the color. It does look like the solidify modifier covers the surfaces.
