Hi again. Tried to improve by the remarks you’ve given me… seems as the lighting has improved, but I wanted to soften the wood base edges and I beveled them but they look faceted in render… How can I fix that?
Thanks
Shira
The board needs smooth shading.
Probably need auto smoothing too. Object data properties, normals dropdown. May need the angle increasing too if it still has some facets showing.
That said, the bevel is strong, what is meant by removing the sharpness of corners is much smaller and more subtle such that you barely notice it.
See NP5 and
You can also use the subdivision modifier, together with smoothness turned on.
But the result depends on how your mesh is and if you use more modifiers. In that case the sequence of modifiers is important.
Thanks.
Here’s what I’ve managed to improve so far… still not perfect
I’ve marked the smooth shading, and I’ve moved vertices manually
any of the other options that you suggested have turned the chess base into a cutlet shape

It should not be hard.
SubDiv is not useful on this item.
Simple bevels and smooth shading.
Ok I used big bevels close to yours.
Tiny ones inside the groove.
Hi again
I’ve built the wooden base board all over again… here it is…
I’ve learned that I can edit different faces in the same object to be smooth flat / and at the same time different faces to be smooth shading… that helped a lot
Thanks again
