I agree that “The Art of Game Design” is an excellent book and is well worth a read. Coupled with GameDev.tv’s courses I really feel I have a shot!
Rick’s book looks to be in a bit better shape than mine

I agree! My wife got me this book and the cards for my birthday and though I haven’t gone through the whole book yet it’s amazing how much It has made me rethink what I thought I already knew. Awesome resource!
