Terrible hashing when beveling verts

Could someone please help me understand why this terrible hashing is happening when I try to bevel some verts on the wall here? Thanks!

Hashing is caused by different faces fighting for the same place in the 3D world. So Double geometry.
Most times it can be fixed in Edit mode, by selecting all with A,
then pressing M, and choosing ‘By Distance’.
