Tank Tracks modelling?

My tank tracks modelling didn’t work out as nice as Grant’s in the modular vehicle tutorials - any ideas why?

I had to change the axis in the Curve Modifier to minus Y (-Y) and I always get an overlap of about one track tread - whatever the number of tank treads will always place one over the top of the first.

Multiple solutions:

  • change the dimensions of the track
  • change the size of the curve
  • scale the track
  • pick the overlap in a place where it will be hidden by other tank parts. Unvisible by the viewer

Oh cool - it looks like there will always be a double-up of the first and last tank tread, you just have to scale or size something until the first and last overlap each other perfectly so that you don’t see the double-up.

Thanks

If there is a double but you can see it.
Rendering it could show some artifacts.

Should fit automatically. Have you selected fir to curve and selected the curve in the array modifier?

Note the array modifier.

I did it twice pretty cleanly but will check for a copy of the mesh.

Yes

Um. It just works when I tested with that example. Have you applied rotations and scales?

Just tried it again. All transforms are applied.

I find it needs a little tweaking when applying the Fit Curve. If the Relative Offset is slightly high or low, it seems to insert an extra tread and an overlap appears over the beginning and end piece. But when it looks correct there is no double-up of any track pieces?
