Switch to New Unity Course 2.0?

Hello,

I’m about half way through the Bowl Master course in the Complete Unity Developer Course - the 1.0 version, I suppose. Anyway, I’m not ready to give up at all on learning to program, but I am almost ready to give up on the course. The challenges are incredibly challenging - I haven’t completed one successfully in Bowl Master - and it’s moved way beyond my current level of understanding. I am learning still, but it’s getting so confusing that I really want to get back to basics.

So, my question is; has anyone else switched from the Unity 1.0 course to the 2.0 version with the new content and if so, was it helpful? Part of it is my desire to review what I’ve learned, and part of it is I want a fresher start. Bowl Master is so complex for a person new to programming that I’m not sure it’s really helping me out that much. I hate to quite things half way, but I need a refresher at this point more than I need new information.

Thoughts, ideas, input very welcome.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,

The two courses are not mutually exclusive, so you could, for example, wrap up the current section on Bowlmaster, even if you don’t attempt the remaining challenges (huge kudos for doing so previously btw), then pick up the 2.0 course.

Every thing I have seen and heard so far is extremely positive about the new course and the way of teaching. For yourself it would be like a refresher of some of the original concepts perhaps initially, but with different games, that alone may make the refresher more interesting.

Perhaps as you continue through 2.0 you may feel more encouraged to give Bowlmaster another look, you will obviously have access to all the courses you have bought on Udemy for life anyway, so you can revisit it if and when you wish in the future.

I wouldn’t see that as giving up, merely taking a break from version one, enjoying a refresher on version two and then perhaps just see how you are feeling about it all. Learning is always going to better when you are enjoying what you’re doing so perhaps a change of scene and games would be that opportunity.

Oh, and Bowlmaster was one of the longest sections in the original course, after that they start to get a little shorter, considerably towards the end.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. That is very helpful! Perhaps I will try to finish up Bowl Master and just keep pushing through it, but yeah… It’s a tough one to say the least. What is great, though, is learning about architecture which is always valuable.

I’ll do some thinking based on your input.

Thanks,
Steve
