I suggest this chapter should be updated. Cycles produces very good renders but it comes at a price: Renders are a lot slower and lights must be of the correct type and positioned in the right place: you can´t separate Cycles and lighting as they go hand by hand.
My experience producing the renders was a sour one: the images were grainy and had lots of fireflies even at high sample rates.
I finally came across a video from blendeguru which used a simple setup which produces nice results.
Please update this chapter to include the 3 lighting system and how indirect light and small light sources affect the rendering.
As a sidenote, my final scene uses 25 samples per pixel and has very few artifacts.
