Steam Greenlight is history, Steam Direct coming end of year. Thoughts?

Ran across this on Reddit a bit ago.

They are going to a pay [and looks like potentially big dollars] to play on Steam as a developer. It will be interesting to see how this plays out but the range of 100 to 5,000 to get a game on steam - PER GAME - touted to be recoverable is likely going to put some severe crimps in indie developers going forward.

Will be interested in comments from you all and @ben since this RPG is targeted to hit Steam at years end as I understand it, and this may be a thing for that.

Enjoy the Read.

And for the record, I think they are going to send a ton of business elsewhere as I can not afford to pay a large fee for the project I’m working on. So am now seeking viable alternatives.

I’ve been aware of this for a little while now. It’s an interesting move and I think it’s a ploy to filter out the ****, basically. Steam has got bogged down with so much dross, that’s hard to find the golden nuggets among them. So now, Direct will make developers pay (not sure how they are going to determine the scale), but the developer will think twice about coughing up dollar to put it on Steam if it’s not of a certain caliber.

While it’ll stop the UnityZ asset flips, it isn’t likely to put off some of the games we see appearing on there with little/no substance.

Some are delusional while some have more money than sense which means it’ll not necessarily stem the flow of **** onto Steam.
