I honestly have no idea what could have caused this. As you can see in the screenshot they all show up in the game tab but not in the scene tab. If I click on them in the hierarchy they will be outlined in the scene but not show up.
I have fixed my problem. Turns out I clicked the button in the scene that hides all sprites. pressing it again fixed my issue
