I had a quick question about the mirror modifier lesson, so when he applied the mirror modifier so he could add a image texture to the door, this created 2 faces on the door, which he then re unwrapped, he then placed those 2 faces on the door, they were placed in like an half and half way so like one face on half the door texture the other face on the other half, I’m confused why he did it like that, is there a reason? The way I did it was all the above, but instead of trying to places 2 faces on the door I just deleted the edge in the middle making one face, I figured it would be easier lining up one face with the texture than 2, but now I’m worried he might of left it like that for a reason, and it’s going to cause me problems later.
Can you add screenshots to that? Very hard to make anything of it in only words. Some time reference in the lecture so we do not have to watch the whole thing just to find what you are talking about?
General Q&A note
Help us all to help you.
Please give full screenshots with any questions. With the relevant panels open.
Also, include the lecture time and name/number that is relevant to the problem/issue.
This can be done by Blender itself, via the ‘Window’ menu bar top left hand side.
On that menu drop down is ‘save screenshot’.
Close ups additionally where they help.
Yeah sorry about that, it’s pretty much all in the last 2 minutes of the lecture, I don’t think a screenshot would necessarily help explain what I’m talking about, but if you watch the last 2 minutes of the spooky corridor, mirror modifier lecture maybe that would help explain, I was just confused as to why he left 2 faces on the door instead of deleting the edge and making 1 face.
Chances are that it has something to do with the course being designed for a complete beginner to follow, ergo, advanced techniques may be incorporated later, but doing them now would likely leave beginners behind.
Also, it might be explained in a future lecture if you carry on. This happens a lot in these courses.
Thanks for your reply, I’m thinking leaving two faces on the door is hardly a big deal anyway, it didn’t actually hinder the UV mapping in any way, I just thought it was a unneeded extra face, but then maybe we will need it for something later, but if that’s the case I can just add a loop cut anyway. I wouldn’t of thought deleting a edge is a advanced technique though.
I haven’t watched that course yet so I wouldn’t know. I agree with @NP5 that a screen shot would have been helpful.
That said, for a complete beginner, it might be pretty challenging.
