Sonar Ping Sound Effects

Evening All!

Any of you have any experience in doing sound effects? I have this idea in my head that I think would make a short but fun game. To make it work the way I see it I’d need to create sonar pings. I have no clue where to even start.

Anyone able to suggest software or a process to point me in the right direction to start puzzling this out?

Thanks!

Rich

If all you need are stock sound effects, have you considered just getting royalty free stock effects? After just a quick Google, I found this collection of sonar pings.

Hey, if you need a scream too, you can just use the Wilhelm scream

If you’re looking to manually make these, unfortunately I’m not able to help :frowning:

All of the audio assets at http://www.soundimage.org are free to use commercially with attribution. I believe there are some SONAR ping sounding effects there.

Once you got your hands on a ping sound effect that you like, you could also then download Audacity (http://www.audacityteam.org/download/) or another free audio editing program and pitch shift it to whatever you need.

Here is where all the game designers go for their sound effects,

Have fun!

Thanks for all the responses and sites.

looks like BFXR.NET or Audacity may be the ticket.

I appreciate it!

Oh yes Audacity is a MUST on all systems thats a given; and it’s FREE!

Although I arrived late at the party, maybe someone will find this useful in the future. So, check this audio generator for simple sounds that you might need to create http://www.drpetter.se/project_sfxr.html
The source code is under MIT license which is great.
In addition there seems to be a port for unity, but not sure if this works or not in the newest versions:
