It looks like you remeshed an object that was not manifold, had a or several holes in it.

Thanks for replying. But what does - manifold mean? I’ve bougght a couple of Ram chips - do you think this will help with remeshing? xxx jess 
It means had a hole in it or some other mesh glitch like double verts etc. First easy check is for holes you can see.
