I’m having some doubts if i should continue to do this course, i’ve been doing the sword and axes drawing tasks, but i feel like my imagination just isnt there, and i feel what i do draw is so bad, a year old could do better. Is this normal for someone who hasn’t really drawn anything really in about 15 years at least. i’m sure i used to have a far better creative mind then i do now. Is it all just in my head or am i done?
I am not a tutor here, and I am not doing the drawing course you are doing, but as someone who has spent a lot of time drawing I can say - it is definitely all in your head.
When we do most things we can be our own worst critics but I think this is especially the case when drawing. The first thing the head says is “OH, that doesn’t look right”.
Without going in to too much more detail - see if you can put judgement to one side and draw anything for half an hour a day. Just draw.
Thanks for the reply, after posting this i went googling different things, and some how got to a TED talk about depression lol, and sat there doodling and drawing random things for an hour, which seemed to help i think.
I think doodling and drawing random things is some of the best drawing anyone can do.
If you want to draw a specific thing and be good at it then like anything else it takes a bit of practise everyday. But if you just want to have fun or drift then this is as important.
Have a look at this video on Proko’s drawing YouTube - it features Tim Gula, an artist that draws for many hours a day producing visuals for the entertainment industry but the first thing he does before he starts anything is lose himself in a warm-up drawing -
Tim Gula - ‘Automatic Drawing’
(My scribbles don’t look like his but I do take some time out to doodle without judgement or expectation)
